Which one would you buy?

As I’ve seen lots of "interesting" FTO in the past few years, I’m just wondering what people are looking for when they were getting or about to get a FTO. It seem to me people on the market are more conscious about price other then safety & drivability.

Example 1

Cheap FTO, around 2-3k cheaper then other on the market, it’s been smash front & back, got few different shading of color on it. Engine bay looks like been to "Rally".

It doesn't look like it's been look after since day one. Nothing line up what so ever, chassis was bended from the looks of things. Got few problems with electronic parts, lights don’t quiet work. But it does come with a body kit, exhaust & some sort of aftermarket wheels as a bonus.

Example 2

Clean FTO, no major accident, just your normal small dints & scratches from stones, have been look after really well by previous owner. Everything line up straight & works as it should be. The price is on the higher scale in the market.

Go the more expensive one.Everything is fine on it,no work or time required to make it go.Plus it wont require money to be spent on it.

When we were looking for ours, we faced much this dilema. of course prices were quite a bit higher then too.

Ended up going for the most stock clean and quiet one we could find. Then you can do to it whatever you want to do, and at least it makes you think it hasn't been driven too hard and has been looked after.

The funny thing is.. when I went to check the FTO I have now, I wasn't sure if I was going to buy an FTO at that point.

If anybody has a minute here's a little story which truly point to "FATE", I guess you can say 8)

I wanted an FTO since I was about 14 (I'm now 21) up until last year, I got sick of people making fun of me for wanting an FTO, so I got influenced to the point that I started looking around for a 200SX S15.
After stressing myself after looking at a few, my friend said lets just check out a FTO since I always wanted one, so I jumped on the net, after the page loaded the first time, we refreshed it 5 minutes later and there was an ad for a FTO that wasn't there before, it had a DC front bar and lip and VS wing with hks air filter and Xforce exhaust, and the major upturn.. its only done 48,000 Ks and I couldn't believe it so I went to check it out, got a mechanic to do a 3 hour checkup on the car and it was in imaculate condition so I bought it for $16,000, bit more pricey but well I'll never find a FTO in a better condition.
So here I am, loving every second of owning it, and I know now that if I had bought another car just to please others.. I would have regretted it forever, and I don't care if other cars are faster, cos to me, my FTO is much more than just my car, it's something I achieved after wanting it for so long, and now people are starting to see it's not a "peice of sh*t" car, in fact one of my friends is now starting to really like FTOs :D
Anyway I really went off topic here.. but well to me, its not about the money, it's if the car is worth it

Well stupid they might seem, but those examples are base on a real case study.

I know someone actually brought an Example 1, even knowing the car was in such a "scrap metal" condition. All because in the name of "saving a few bucks" & "its got a Veilside kit" :? What's worst, the car got heaps of hidden rust & had endless problem ever since.

Well I don't know who voted Example 1, it could be the same person or another one, so Mike, these scenarios do exist & they aren't stupid questions. And it was these scenarios that prompted me to make a poll & see how many people are like that.

Like i said, thank god, only 1 or maybe 2.

I think too that Kev has used extreme examples... and possibly people sway to one side or the other (but perhaps not always in such extreme cases)...

Yes you guys are right, it is a pretty extreme example but like I said, I was just describing a FTO I saw & the guy did buy it for that reason. And then said all the FTO in this forum are over price, or people paying too much for it 8O

sometimes u can't understand people and why they do things/buy things. If it was that easy i would go sell stuff ppl actually wanted and make a mint...unfortunately I dunno what ppl want...I mean i know none of my friends even want an FTO..let alone a sh*t one...

Well, I dunno if I fall in to any of those categories; I bought my car partly because it was cheap.

I had it checked by 3 mechanics, including the RACV import centre, and for the most part it checked out clean. The only things wrong with it were things I would replace even if I did buy a more expensive version.

eg/
car had a few scratches ( which I've added to with my gate a few weeks ago grrr  )
the paint isn't the best
not the best lowering job so it needs to be redone
body kit (stock) was in average, but not bad condition
the tinting is knackered.

I bought it for 10.5k on the road, not including what it cost to have it checked out by the mechanics (~$350). The ks were a little high at 160k, and I tried to get it for even less because of that, but regardless of the ks i did plan on buying a new engine before I start modding it anyway. Simply because I want some knowledge of the history of the engine before I start putting money in to it.

I'd never even considered an FTO before I saw this one, mainly because I hadn't heard too much about it, but when I first saw him pull up with it I fell in love. Even with her flaws she was the perfect car for me.

I've had the car just over 6 months now, with no troubles at all. I'm fixing the paint, bodykit and tinting at the end of the year. Estimating that to be ~3.5k or less, since I'm staying with black. And if I have enough change I'm getting some proper lowering springs aswell.

After that I'll start saving for extra mods like interior, engine (if bennoz gets the supercharging to work ;) ), etc.
