Has anyone actually used these successfully ?

From my experience, 2 things stand out with these radios.

1. "UP TO 3 km" suggests only reliable at much less range. 3km would be in ideal conditions. Straight line, no obstructions, no solar-flare activity LOL (OK so the last one only affects HF, but it sounds good)

2. UHF means Line-of-sight, so while cruising say through hilly terrain (the best kind) comms would be intermittent

Im not saying they are no good, and any UHF radio regardless of cost will suffer from line-of-sight problems to a degree, but you will get what you pay for, and running on 4xAAA batteries, dont expect great comms.

My opinion only... 8)

i have a 3km radio, works fine for me.

the only problem i find is that when your cruising, you really want to have your music on, but you cant if u want to use the radio.... =D

I have used mine on a cruise down the Great Ocean road. we had about 8/9 cars and about 2 klicks from front car to the back one and we did not have any problems.

yeah we use talkies when we go cruisin as well but ours one from dick smith, can't remember the brand doesn't work that well ... 1km is ok 2km is like hmmm
The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world's problem.
