Depends on the exposure and therefore potential business generated....

What is the purpose of the sponsor?

its very hard to get a sponsorship like that.

They will prob give you a discount if you display your car at car shows and stuff like that.

Knowing certain individuals who work at the particular place can help greatly. They also probably check to see if you've participated in any show business before; magazines, expos, videos stuff like that. Anything that is related to you.
As for just rocking up to the shop and telling them to install something unique thats gonna be put up for shows, lenny is probably right. They'll give you some discount but don't expect free stuff right off the bat. Maybe over time depending on how much media coverage you get.

Mil & I had a common friend who work as a manager in a well know high quality audio brand company & that person mention, there are hardly any real sponsored car in Australia, however there are lots of "wankers" (that’s his word) that pretend to be sponsored by a company.

The reason been why getting a sponsorship would be harder then getting blood from a stone, is that you have to be doing something really extra ordinary or some like to call it outrages, in order to get sponsorship. But once you get their attention, you do get freebie stuff & by then you probably spend enough money to get a decent I.C.E/interior/exterior just to get their attention.
