holy shyt.. thats expensive!!

Anyway, i used to use BP Ultimate with is 98 octane, till they had this thing on the news a couple of weeks ago in which they wur saying its just to make money, cos extra bit of octane will make such a tiny difference, that u can never notice it.
and it DOESNT make your engine last longer just from using higher octane fuel. they said not to use it unless maybe u had like a 100,000$ car yea u can consider it but otherwise, they make a big deal out of nothing

it depends on what your car is tuned to run on.... if a car is tuned to run on 98.... i wouldnt put anything less then that in it....

secondly i wouldnt trust everything you see on the news... it depends who they get their information off...

thirdly, it may make only a small difference (on economy and performance) but its only a small difference in price too...... all fuel is expensive....

Which program was this & which 98ron fuel did they test, most important of all, which car did they use.

Probably your standard Rolla's and Commos =P

You also must consider that most people don't run sports cars. Family cars tend to have a larger margin for tolerance to these sorts of things.

Considering 6A12 MIVECs run with a CR of 10:1 designed for 100RON, I'll be still using 98RON fuel even if the price goes over 2AUD.

I'll just be looking at getting a motorbike over here =P

Hmmm I've been away quite some time it appears, lotsa new names =)

Since these prices are in NZD, can anyone give me a quick conversion, wrt exchange rates, to AUD ? Is fuel that much more expensive over there ?

179.9 = 153.3

I paid $1.46 for BP ultimate today so not a huge difference, about ten cents dearer at the moment.

My home country Turkey,
98RON: AUS$3.15
95RON: AUS$3.08
91RON: AUS$2.99

The wage is less then half what we get in AUS, and everybody drives at least 30-50kms each way to work everyday, if not more. City centre has been filled up long time ago.
Every petrol station has employees that fill up the petrol for you at every filler. You dont even have to come out of your car to pay. and they clean your windscreen for free. Excellent system.

Dont understand how these beautiful people gets their ends together at the end of the month.

BTW, Turkey is a great place for holiday, I recommend to eveyone. Just dont drive...

Is the same in HK, Japan & Korea. Hint why the servo in Oz called self serve.

The problem i found with these kind of fully serviced station is, it makes a lot off people doesn't know how to pump cars tyres & fill up when they come to self serve country like Oz & NZ.

true, thats why our local servo does do that.... for the tourists, cause we are only a tiny town of 350 odd and al these people come to see the lake (must be a tourist thing) so we make money off them, they are the ones who die on our rural roads :) and fall into the lake canals.... and dont know what colour to put in thir gas tank....

Brilliant!

oh get this..... our fire station had a callout yesterday.... like for a fire..... but it wasnt, someone called 111 when a truck ran through a mob of sheep on a road........

took out about 30 of them.....

no, i wasnt "friends" with any of them.

but the brigade had to mop the mess off the road... and the truck driver did a runner (as you would if youve just taken out a couple of grands worth of sheep)

8)

how good is my town

That report was on ACA (barf) and they tested it for Australian cars (ford and holden), which the FTO is clearly not.

It was an RACV independant test and they concluded that unless your car was designed to run on a high octane fuel then there is no benefit to using it. But don't forget that Australian designed cars are designed to run on 91 octane, and since the FTO was designed to run on 100 octane one would conclude that using 98octane would be the least you can do to help your car perform to it's fullest.

Becareful when watching those stupid current affair shows, the dramatic music they play in the background is designed to lure the listener away from the facts :P[/quote]

Run your FTO on 91 ron and see how it goes if u think it doesn't make a difference...lol

import jap cars = 98+ ron fuel in general.

Now your Falcon...thats a different story.
