so much for all this talk of bagging on other cars, it got me a little excited on my way home from work so i decided to have a little bit of fun with a '95 Prelude VTiR... gee'd him up at the lights, popped the clutch at 2500rpm and juumped away from him by about half a car length by the end of 1st, stabbed to 2nd and i was pulling by 1 car length already and towards mid 3rd he was starting to catch up a little until i hit MIVEC then it was all game over... God i love my 3rd gear, muahahaha! :D:D

...but gee i tell you what, i could hear his VTEC YO!!!!! scream louder than mine FFS!!

ill tell you one of my stories. My mate just bought a RX7 with a 12a (1980's) and i saw him up a head, so i caught up to him, put it in neutral and revved to about 6k rpm and when he saw me, he smiled and tried to pull away. The problem was i was in neutral and i changed to 3rd and was on about 2k rpm but when i got more revvs up to 6k rpm i absoluteley blew him to bits in about 100m. From this day on he won't race me......or anyone else for that matter

The Ford XT is a damn fine family car and one hell of a taxi. I don't really like calling them taxis as I'm still a Ford nut even though I've got an FTO.

Besides the versatile engine found in the XT, it also features probably the best auto box to be developed in this country. Just have a look at the times done in the manual and auto versions of the XR6T and you'll notice there is very little difference if any.

from hearing all your stories it's making me want to go for ride during my lunch break :) ... i'd like to think I can hold my own in my stock as rock ride... 8) however, it wouldn't hurt to find out whether my style is good or bad... can we please all share what the best way to launch/rip/let loose our beasts (I'm talking about the car ok)... this shold help every FTO driver gain a pointer when someone wants to take us on off the lights..
eg... from your experience what's the best rpm before you let go of the clucth?? etc... and any other pointers!

taxi's

Post by elmo »

I drive a taxi and I can tell you that it is no comparison when I slip into the FTO to go home...The taxi is quicker to about 30km/h then see ya... and the Fto is just so low, it handles beautifully, a real drivers car. She just screams "drive me hard, drive me fast, I'm a sports car drive me like one"
I'll admit the Falcon has got grunt but the FTO has got class, and driven in the right rev range, there's almost enuf grunt....(almost  )

well, to be fair i guess you can't say the same for the EB-series Falcons or VP-series Commies... those suckers are a slow PoS and you wouldn't even need redline to flush them off the lights!

...but you know what they say - horsepower wins traffic lights, torque wins races... (or something along those lines LOL)

having said that my friend got thrashed in his DC5R when lining up against a BA falcon the other night... they are feral MFs when given a bootful!

My tips for a good take off:

I rev it to about 4 000 rpm but i have LSD and a heavy clutch:lol: usually normal cars are lower rev range eg 3000 to 3500 rpm.[/quote]

taxis run on gas, also the BA taxis dont have the full 182KW like the petrol driven engines. taxis lose drags cause they dont take a strait line on roads, they seem to weave all over the place, ive witnessed this on quiet a few occations. :D

Torque wins drags, the falcons 4.0L has almost double the FTO's and much lower in the rev range.

You think about the FTO's peak power and torque, its produced way up in the rev range, around 7500rpm isnt it? You spend only a slight amount of time in this range when dragging, so bascially peak power of the FTO is not used often when dragging.

I have an FTO, but ive also driven an XT falcon, biased aside, maybe you guys reckon i am a bit biased but this is a total mutual opinion.

I'll credit the FTO when i see fit, but for strait line speed i cannot.

ill quote mario (GTR700) "power are for dynos, torque are for drags"

thats because the manual box is crap :)

the 6 speed auto should be nice, not long till it comes out. The 6 speed manual box is still under wraps but info will be leaked in the near future. All ford are saying is it wont be the same clunky box found on the commodores.

The of the main reasons why the turbo manuals and autos run similar times is becuase 450NM of torque of produced from 2500rpm onwards, that would help things out a bit :)
