Help!! Clicking and Grinding Noise from front!!

Post by jae »

Can anyone help!!

Problem 1: when I press down on the accerator up a hill there seems to be a clicking noise coming from the front .... What could be the problem ???? The clicking noise sounds like a metal spring being overworked ...

Problem 2: when I turn there's like a grinding metal clicking sound coming from the front under the car ... Plzz help it seems like my wheels are gonna fall off!!

The clicking noise around corners might be your LSD. I know that's what causing my clicking.

The grinding noise might be the CVs. I had my CVs reconditioned about a month ago. Cost me $200 each stem and then some fresh oil.

Thanks guys for your replies .... I just have stock rims .... had my 18" vault crystals stolen couple of months back ... maybe they f**ked up my car :( :( yeah I was thinking the grinding noise had to do something with cv joints .... maybe I need reconditioning. Also I don't think the clicking noise is from the engine, the sounds more springy like, when I press on the accelerator. :( :( I guess more money in to the car ...

Sounds like your engine is pinging, or in other word pre-ignition, not verygood, a few things that cause it is:-
- Low octane fuel.
- Ignition timing to far advanced.
- carbon build up in combustion camber.
- spark plug heat range incorrect for engine.

These are just a few that will cause the engine to ping.

you getting a loss of power each time it clicks? when you accelerate?

if its only when turning that could still be cv's, a friend of mine with worn cv's had a grinding/clicking on tight turns

I'm in the process of having my LSD fixed at the moment. I'll let you know when I get some estimates.

the sound from the front comes only when i press firm down on the accelerator ... not sure if I'm losing power or not. The grinding clicking sound comes when I do tight turns so it must be worn cv's ... does that mean I have to get it replaced ?? how much would it cost all up??

matters how fu*ked they are...if not bad u just wack in some more grease and get an aftermarket boot and re-seal..easy and cheap...but if its grinding already it might nned some real attention...I assume thats what u need..$200-250 per CV...i.e. 500.

jae did you work out how they got the rims off ? I have Vault savanahs and with mine they have a plate that you need a specail allen key to take off then you have to get around the lock nuts...

Yep mine had it aswell! but its not hard to take that off .. the mechanics took it off in 2 minutes, coz I had to get new pads and I forgot the key ... but ofcourse they couldn't do the lock nuts so I had to go home and get the locknut keys ... and stupid me left the keys in the car :( :( couple of days later my car was on bricks, my friends skyline got done aswell, not the wheels though coz his got stock :o I think they were going for my system but found the keys so they took the rims aswell  but yeah its ezy for any guy that knows wheels to take that off ....

If the sound only comes when you turn it would be the CV's, you can get a boot kit with grease for $25 if you know where to get them, but if the CV is damaged you will need to replace the joint, but you will find that it is cheaper to buy a whole new drive saft with 2 CV's.

I had to do this on my liberty, left side inner CV joint costs $600 genuine, aftermarket whole new shaft with CV joints with a trade discount $149.

Sounds silly but thats how it is, just buy a whole new shaft, I saved $451.

Springy Noise

Post by dstocks »

This may be a bit of a long shot, but the noise I was having on accellerate/brake (for me was a squeak) ended up being a broken engine mount. These do have a reputation of going, so that would be worth a check.

that grinding would be your rotor backing plate rubbing again the rotor when you turn!

Have a look at the gap between the rotor and plate if it is very close give it a bit of a wack.
