I recently had my CVs reconditioned because the FTO was a bit noisy going round hard corners. As it turns out, the CVs were only a little bit of the total noise. The larger portion is coming from the limited slip diff. So, I'm looking to get the LSD reconditioned. I called around a few places and most of them sound very dodgy. All of them saying they've never repaired or replaced the diff in an FTO.
Sooo... has anyone had any work done on their diff or know of someone who will do a decent job? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
is it a standard fto lsd or replacement cusco one? would have thought its just a matter of pulling the gearbox out and opening up the gearbox... and it should b even simpler if its a normal cusco one because they can replace the MZ plates or whatever easy with readily available cusco parts
u dont live anywhere near perth do ya? there a coupla places around here that've had ftos
I could also do it. I have had to repair my gearbox twice so far, cusco seems to be holding still. snapped 4 set of drive shafts, on my 4 th clutch set up. Getting to know the drive line quite well
I really don't know if the current lsd is standard or cusco. Although the car does have a fair few mods that the previous owner never told me about, so it wouldn't surprise me.
I should have mentioned that I'm in Sydney. (Although Perth is quite lovely, it's a hell of a drive.)
I'll give him a call tomorrow and see when he can take a look at it. It's at a stage now where it really needs to be fixed.
I have to accelerate up to a corner, put the clutch in and coast around. Not exactly safe and not fun to drive.
I have noticed that after about an hour of solid driving, after the car is nice and warm, the noise completely disappears. I can only hope that it's something as simple as the oil, because I really don't want to do a complete replacement.
Dave from Rpw gave me some mineral oil and is 1/4 cheaper than the Redline oil.
I have tried heaps of oils including Gen Mitsubishi oil, Redline (tried 2 or 3 different types), Fuchs and now i'm on the mineral oil. Plenty of money for just experimenting different oils.
I got the RS cusco LSD and its VERY loud, hope this can help. I'll know tommorow
