Windscreen Seals

Post by Sean »

It looks like adhesive for the seals for my windscreen needs re doing. The rubber part seems to be separating slightly from the metal on the car exterior.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the adhesive to use? Is it ok just to re glue the area involved?

Yeah there is a special type of sealant for windsheilds. Its a black goey stuff that is used in a pressure gun (same type of gun you'd use silcone type sealants in)

Most auto shops will stock brand equivalants. What ever you do, dont use straight out silicon - apart from being an arse to remove, it can cause rust.

To seal up a windsreen, I would use sikaflex (sorry I don't know how to spell it), you just put that in the gun, just make sure it is the black stuff.

Yeah I had to replace my rear windsheild one. Got the rubber seal in from Mitsi. Its a cock buster of a job... Iv'e done it on a few cars before & its always an ass.

If I was to do it again, I'd get the parts in & call a winshield mob like O'brian. Let them deal with the black sh*t everywhere & the nasty juggle of window, black sh*t & rubber seal.... it really is a nightmare.
