timing belt

my car is at 61000km and does not have a timing belt replacement so far. question is should i change the timing belt coz it has not been changed for more than 5 yrs??
if yes where (sydney) and how much does it cost to change the timing belt?

yes u do have to !!!

and do it as soon as u can.....

dont know how it can last for so long...but if it breaks u will have big problems

im not from sydney so i dont know......but u can have a search on the forum for NSWs...

and it cost a fair bit....i suggest that u do a major service as well!! should be around 500.....

aorund 500?? that's not as much as i thought since one of the repair shop quote me for around a 1000.
well hopefully member from sydney can direct me where to go for the cheapest major servicing for fto

how much is just a timing belt its self, I think I might have to change mine, my car has only done 52,000km and is a 94 model, is the timing belt all the same with all the 6a12's or would it be different with it having mivec.

Yep MIVEC belt is different to non mivec - more teeth on it

I bought my Gates timing belt (after market) for my GPX from Repco for $95, I think Mitsubishi sell genuine ones for around $250

lucky I was broke today, I was about to get one from mitsubishi, I guess I will go to repco, I will try to get a trade discount on it and get it even cheaper.

No performance difference at all, tis the same thing basically.

Some people just prefer the gen for piece of mind / longevity.

If you are doing a major service, the other thing that is recommended to change is the water pump. As it sits under all the timing gear. As far as mods go, there aint much on that end of the engine thats worth touching
