Custom iPod Setup; The Ghetto Way

Post by scarecrow »

Heh, well I recieved my little ipod today in the mail (i hate ipods by the way, i was going to use their free engraving to have "ipods: sucking major cock since 2001" but it would of taken another week to be sent. I couldn't go into a store and buy it cause I wanted a student discount (uni is teh sechs). Anywho, my headunit which came with the car (worth 50bux on ebay) has an aux in so i decided i wanted my ipod set up in the car. Using some hardcore foam and a steak knife I was ready to go in about 5minutes :D

The photo's don't do it justice, it actually looks quite good, except for the temporary light foam piece behind it, i'll fix this and the top will just be dark grey foam with the ipod popping out on an angle.

Anyway, pictures! And video :P I love cameras.

The pictures are big, the videos are big (all 3 - 5meg each) just deal with it; i'm too tired to resize the f**kers. If someone else wants to convert them to lower quality and link it then by all means, I just wanna go to bed.

Without further ado, some stuff -

Video, take 1 ... http://www.filelodge.com/files/hdd2/11517/MVI_3011.avi
Video, take 2 ... http://www.filelodge.com/files/hdd2/11517/MVI_3002.avi
The photo with no flash is most indicative of how it looks in real life, the flash makes the foam look much lighter then it actually is. Notice teh CF cup holder.

The reason this isn't in DIY or anything is because it was just abit of fun, i'll make a proper mounting solution later and post up about it. Ideally I want to have it coming out of the upper right hand side vent (near where the tweeters are) using the "dock adapter" to mount it.

Peace out, yo.

Well, after holding the last remaining shreds of my warped sense of humour together after watching that last vid  I decided to be nice.... especially as you used Children of Bodom as your sample song :D

My Aux is routed from behind the headunit, i'll grab you guys the model number, there is no english documentation for it, or official record of it's existance :P It's prob just some cheap knockoff but it works pretty great!

Dr Jones, try and source "Tokyo Warhearts" on DVD; it's amazing. Alexi is my new god :P

Ideally you want the ipod mounted somewhere else, but this only took a couple of minutes, and will suffice until I can source the necessary parts to move it somewhere with better access and vision.

Also, if anyone by any chance has a spare driver side upper vent and grill i'd be interested -

I'll post up in the wanted to buy section later.

That's not what you were screaming last night.

Not bad for a ghetto setup. :P

with a small amount of work you could run that wire under the centre console surround and come up under the drink holder if your willing to put a hole in the cup holder of course.... maybe not with the CF cup holder though :).

That was the original plan, but it is an absolutely absymal place to mount the player... extremely hard to read, and use the dials. It's very much only temporary!
