1996 GPX Engine No Start, No Go

Post by shnegan »

Hey Guys,
I need some help......

Heres a list of what i have encountered:-

Engine management light comes on and TC turns off, car will then cut out while idling even while just braking with clutch in.

Engine mangement light come on and TC turns off occassionally while driving 110 km/h on highway but unless i slow down will not usually cut out.

I once had No acceleration while driving on highway (car would not go) but once i dropped a gear it fired up again but then cut out.

Sometimes the wont even start, it turns over but then cuts out again.

This is what i have tried so far to fix it:-

I have had the alternator rebuilt as it wasnt charging properly.

Had the MAP sensor cleaned.

Had the Immobilizer disconnected.

Computer has been scanned for codes a few times, each time not registering the fault code (as if the memory is being wiped for some reason).

Any ideas?
Thanks Vaughan.

have you checked the starter motor? it might be the cause but don't quote me on that.

lol. guys....

ok, this is a really hard problem to sort out, it's wouldn't be started moter..
as it wouldn't do what it does when the car is already being driven.

Umm. this is complicated, my suggestion would be to follow this article and see what error codes you get..

http://www.ftowa.com/html/workshop/workshopart07.html

Otherwise take it to a very good mechanic, as mechanics that haven't touched the fto will most likely screw around not knowing what to do and waste your money.

Have you check your stepper/idle speed motor?

oops

I meant stepper motor. It can be the cause of it not starting but I dunno about the stalling at hight speeds.

sh*t now someone is thinking...

Hey dude, you just described my old problem exactly, turns out when my new headlights got put in in the panel shop they blew the fusable link from the alternator to the battery so the battery wasnt takeing any charge even though the alternator was running fine.

you can find it in your engine bay fuse box, open it up, its the big square 1 on the bottom right with a window in it and it says "80A" on it, see if the fuse in that window is broken.
