List of possible mods for the GS model?
I have a GS. Its already got a mem chip mod with different gear ratios, pod filter and phat exhast, but what are some other engines mods that could get it going alittle quicker?
Its around 130kw now, and its certainly not slow, but being a high reving engine, I always get worried im pushing it too hard when it gets to around 4500rpm (thats where the auto changes gears, too high?) It gets very vocal (or that could just be the exhast).
Am I just paranoid?

ah ok that's not at the wheels, how much money do you want to spend? that's really the first question cause with a 1.8 in such a big engine bay i'm thinking a nice big fat turbo.
I would be looking firstly at the air intake if it only has a pod on the end of the stock pipework there is plenty that can be done.
secondly the collection pipe's i'd be looking at (check out the FTO Project) we've recently found some serious issues with the piping straight after the extractors, stay tuned for this as it'll be a bolt on piece any backyard mechanic can do.
Get a exhaust specialist to look at your exahust it may well be too big (i.e. just cause its loud doesn't make it the best exhaust for your car).
Umm... enlarged throttle bodies... i haven't looked at the 1.8 so i'm not sure what can be done to it here but like most engines better breathing is always a good thing.
Anyway if your in sydney make sure you come to the BBQ (email me if you are) we can talk more there about possibilities.

well if you want to replace the engine and turbo it that way i know a EVO4 engine fits in but this conversion you won't get much change from 20k i wouldn't expect.
the 1.8 can be turbo'd pretty easy you'd be looking at somewhere between 8-10k for a proper conversion (including front mount intercooler, piggyback computer, bigger injectors, new fuel pump, etc, etc).
if you are seriously interested in it contact me privately i can probably put you in contact with the right people
so where are you?

Nah, a GS is only a SOHC 16 Valve, not the Lancer GSR engine.Rusty12 wrote:Geez, 10k is a lot for a car only worth around 20k... i only want it to go alittle quicker... it aint slow, just could do with a kick along.
basically, what im am really interested in, is just how much of a thrashing can this engine take? Its a DOHC Lancer GSR engine right?
Stock GS is spec at 93kw at the fly wheel. A GR is about 134kw stock.

the GS 1.8l motor is basically a Jap-spec Lancer MR motor given its engine code (4G93). the extra few kW comes from a different ECU compared to the local Lancer 1.8l motors.
oh, and yes - what you wanna do to the motor also depends on your budget and needs. frankly i wouldn't piss and fart around with NA mods on the 1.8l motor - if you wanna do something, you may as well do it right the first time, heheheh...
