Hey all,
Ever since i bought my fto i have had nothing but problems with it!! The guy who sold it to me sold me a lemon and it is costing me sh*t loads of money ( that i dont have ) to fix the car!!!
Don't get me wrong i love my car, I think it is the best looking FTO i have ever seen (Im probably biassed though) but i am going to have to fix it and sell it as i dont have the money for it anymore.
So my question to you guys is Do you know of any Good FTO mechanics around the Campbelltown area as i can not drive it to far because it keeps cutting out on me (i think it maybe the crank angle sensor).
I have had the computer searched for error codes but nothing is coming up in the registry. Im just hoping its not the computer itself!!
So if anyone can help me out in anyway it would be much appreciated!!
Desperate, Vaughan.

Re: Good Mechanics
What sort of cutting out? While driving? While at a set of lights (idling)?shnegan wrote:So my question to you guys is Do you know of any Good FTO mechanics around the Campbelltown area as i can not drive it to far because it keeps cutting out on me (i think it maybe the crank angle sensor).
Try this guide to check the error codes yourself:

It could be your O2 sensor/cat convertor, or if you have a AFM (big black box near your airfilter) then it mightn't be plugged in securely, or your idle speed controller might be dodge (extremely common problem, car cuts out while idling, ie. with the clutch in).

What does your car do exactally, does it cut out when it is at idle, when accelerating, is it hard to start, just cuts out when driving along, does it missfire.
It could be heaps of things like fuel pump it might be cutting out or its relay playing silly buggers, somewhere in the ignition like the coils earthing out, a sensor somewhere like the MAF sensor if it is a non-mivec or the MAP sensor if it is a mivec and crank angle, ECU and More......
These are problem I have encountered at work (they were not FTO's
), but I'm just saying there is a big list.

Well heres a list of what i have encountered:-
Engine management light comes on and TC turns off, car will then cut out while idling even while just braking with clutch in.
Engine mangement light come on and TC turns off occassionally while driving 110 km/h on highway but unless i slow down will not usually cut out.
I once had No acceleration while driving on highway (car would not go) but once i dropped a gear it fired up again but then cut out.
Sometimes the wont even start, it turns over but then cuts out again.
This is what i have tried so far to fix it:-
I have had the alternator rebuilt as it wasnt charging properly.
Had the MAP sensor cleaned.
Computer has been scanned for codes a few times, each time not registering the fault code (as if the memory is being wiped for some reason).
Is it possible that my immobilizer has a short and is causing the problem??
Thanks guys,
Vaughan

Yes that is a big list!!!
Well I would check the important things first, the fuel and spark. The way it sounds like I would check the fuel system, check the flow of fuel, fuel pressure, check filter pump and injectors. At work we had a commodore come in becasue it wouldn't start, we found that the injectors were full dirt and metal shavings, we found it came from the fuel station where he gets his fuel from, yes the filter should of filtered that stuff out but it can only do so much when it is filled with sludge.
