CV Boot

I just got a quote from Kempys they advised that the CV boot connected to the transmission is the Front Outer CV Boot?? Is this correct????
Mitsubishi said that if its the front outer CV boot that can put on a generic boot which they stretch over the CV and it only costs $135 for labour and price of boot!!!
But i advised him its the one connected to the tranny which then he said this isnt call the front outer CV though!!! Anyway kempys have the boot for $100.00 and labour from mitsubishi is $130. So $260.00 all up.
Just need confirmation with what the boot is called!!
Anyone have a CAPS print screen so i can find out??

So wheres the CV joints them??? More towards the back on the engine connected sort of to the wheels???
Ive got a date tonight and im in the process of cancelling on her as my car is not drivable!!! Is it dangerous to drive with the universal joint boot leaking??? Is it more expensive or cheaper to fix????

well i just went to my local mech as i cant but stuffed anymore with this prob and he advised that when changing the boots you usually change the shaft as well!
It sounded expensive, he quoted me $225.00 all up!!! Im happy with that!!!

The CV boot is the one marked 'J' in the pic - they're both on the same shaft.
CV = Constant Velocity Joint. Its a joint in the shaft that allows the shaft to both rotate forward (engine power) and be flexible (turning the steering wheel whilst being powered.)
The Universal Joint is slightly more simple - its joint from the gearbox is obviously a fixed height point, it just needs to be able to keep power running through the drive shaft with small up & down movements coming from the suspension at the CV joint end.

If the CV boot is damaged get it replaced and repack soon as possible don't do what I did, On my old 93 Subaru Liberty I got it with a damaged CV boot and the CV made some noise it was the left inner CV, basically I just left it and it got really bad, when I just drove around it would rattle and when I turned left it would make a banging noise.
When I thought it was time to get it fix I found out a genuine CV joint with boot and greese was around $600, so I went aftermarket, I got a whole new drive shaft with both inner and outter CV joint for $149 thats with a trade discount, and fitted it myself, took about an hour.
so if your goin to need a new CV joint you might find that buy a new drive shaft with both joint cheaper than buying one joint alone.

not hard to notice...it should be apart of your own regular maintence checks...if you see grease all over the joint (and you can tell easily) then its time the boots were replaced...I tend to follow this basic inspection procedure...
