Noises

Hi guys,

I drive a Manual GPX and have been noticing some mechanical noises from the front.

Not sure if its Tappet noise or something else.

But what I did notice was that when I put the clutch in, the noise disappears. Once the clutch is out, the noise comes back again.

So when the car is in idel, with clutch out, theres a mechanical sounding noise. Doesnt sound too healthy.

The car makes no noise wotsoeva when in motion or when the clutch is in.

Any ideas?

I used to have that....

its the spring? on the clutch, it happened to my car as the clutch was wearing out.... I replaced my clutch and the noise went away and has never come back...

however if your clutch is fine, im sure u can just get the spring tightened.

the clutch is fine. becos tis only just got replaced. will any mechanic be able to tighten the spring?

am hoping that its just a general car thing.

cos i have a family friend that services the rest of our other cars.

im not using technical terms, but from what I know its a very easy thing to fix.... suprising its loose though if the clutch has been fitted recently.

What I do know is, that my car did EXACTLY the same thing - for a long time haha

I think you refering to the tappet noise in the engine bay, should not worry too much about as is common with GPX.

Even if you re-adjust it the noise will return eventually.

Hmmm....I had exactly the same thing, and it was the clutch (which was completely worn out actually).

Surprised it is still making the noise with a new clutch.

Have whoever put the new one in have a look, and listen, to your problem.

i was "told" that the clutch was replaced when i got my car a few months back

am gonna take it to my mechanic and get it checked out

If the springs have lost there tension doesn't mean that the clutch is worn, in the clutch plate where the gearboxes input shaft goes in thats where the springs are, there job is to absorb jolts and stuff between the engine and gearbox, basically the springs just need to be replaced.

Usually the springs on the plate (as bigpitty1 mentioned.)

Hopefully when they replaced the clutch they replaced the thrust bearing as well - its the bearing that pushes the whole clutch plate assembly in when you put your foot on the pedal. Also a noise maker when worn.

aaa i know this is an old thread but... just an update

a few weeks ago i took my car to the mechanic and have spoke to him about the clutch plate and the springs. i even printed out these forums and showed him so that he knows exactly what im... i mean, u guys are on about lol

he finally diagnosed it as the springs on the clutch, and showed me what u guys wer talking about by getting a new clutch plate and a busted one and demonstrated for me lol

so... the verdict is that the springs are lose on the clutch. but am not too sure if they can be replaced or would it even be worthwhile doing it cos apparently it doesnt effect the car in any way apart from the noise that comes around occasionally. so at the moment i just left it as it is.

but, y do i have a feeling that if i need to replace the clutch plate, its gonna cost me big $$?

So its the springs on the clutch plate itself?? If so, a clutch plate wont cost you too much. Its a matter of being able to get just the plate... most of the time kits come with bearings & pressure plate as well ($)
