I have done a previous return trip to Jindabyne and Canberra from Melbourne, going through over Cooma.
I would commit to this trip as I have enjoyed it so much last time.
Not sure of the way VIC attendees will follow, however, I will definitely go through the Great Alpine Road. It is the best winding roads I have ever come across till now.
Incredible scenery and Month Kosciuszko on the way. Almost no incoming traffic at all.
%100 satisfaction guaranteed.

As far as I can remember none of the cars that went to Mallacoota had any engine trouble.
I might be in.
I think it is best if the trip doesn't coincide with exams or the 2 weeks preceding like it did last time (I seem to remember Nimz and her friends with the books out instead of doing FTO stuff... and me not studying at all that weekend
).

Well maybe the S.A boys & gals can team up with the VIC boys & gals here, & we can have a mini multi-state cruise to Jindy

Mentally planning for about April-May next year. You dont wanna be cruising around this area in the middle of winter... traffic is horrific with snow bound people. 4 wheelers & roof racks everywhere. And I dont know many FTO owners that want to be whacking chains on!
It does snow there in the winter from Late June / July through to September.
During non ski season its a nice quiet place... where we can enjoy the bendy roads

Not to mention the HOOOOGE police presence that works it's way their during that time.Mentally planning for about April-May next year. You dont wanna be cruising around this area in the middle of winter... traffic is horrific with snow bound people.
And yes, if it's during winter the roads will be covered in snow, Jindabyne is after all the central hub for most of the areas ski resorts.

May
Dont want to scare people, but.....
Be a little careful with May. I used to do a fair bit of downhill skiing up there and I have gone skiing in May before. There have been early dumps in the past that have dumped snow as low down as Cooma during May.... Probably not much of a chance if going no higher than Jindabyne, but if you intend to venture up into the Thredbo area be prepared for some ice/snow

do the check at whereis.com.au, Lilydale VIC to Jindabyne NSW.
and do not forget you cannot average 100kms/hour when the limit is 100!
if you can average 70kms/hour over a 500 / 600 km run you are doing real well.
don't forget the old fart needs his toilet stops.
