Well ive rang insurance companies nerly all day long and hardly anybody will touch me. Heres a list of ppl ive rung for comprehensive insurance with my parents as the owners and me a nominated driver:
NRMA - $5700
Just Cars - $4928
Young & Cool - Wont insure me because i havent had insurance before
Heath Labert - Wont do it cos im under 25
Dawns Underwriting - Wont because im 21 & parents have had a stolen car
Shannons - My car isnt old enough (not a classic or vitage)
Suncorp - No imports
GIO - No imports
AAMI - No Imports (even though they handle Just Cars)
CGU - No Imports
Southern Cross - No - have to have business insurance with them
Torque - No one under 21
Waiting to hear back from Unique, and Ultimate Ride and still have to ring some others, anyother suggestions? i dont mind paying a bit more for insurance but $5000 is a joke!

looks like your best option is not too include your name in the insurance... just insure it under your parents name... I'm sure this is what most under 25 drivers with no history of NCB do
... how often will you be riding your babe anyways??? if it's everyday.. it may be a good idea to insure it under your name... but if it's just during the weekend... it just means you have to be extra careful and watch where you park it...
also... if your parents has an old bomb or something... insure it third party under your name and parents... as years go by this will accumulate your no claim bonus.... when your 23 or 25 you can us that insurance history and convert it to maybe 30-50% no claim bonus, even if it wasn't comprehensive from the start... this will help you in the long run
actually... I just remembered... my friend is 21 with a fully done up Supra (non-turbo) and he's only paying low 2k's (i say low... coz of his age and NCB)... i'll get the number tonight and post it tomorrow...

Have you tried famous car insurance?
http://www.famousinsurance.com.au/
This is the company that a lot of skyline and wrx owners use as the quotes are really cheap.
My friend is one of those skyline owners and all his friends have never had a problem when making a claim from Famous.

I think your best bet is 3rd Party if you have not had insurance before.
If you go with 3rd party, go with a company that will give you credit when you can afford full comprehensive. If I remember correctly, I think with Just Cars, if you have had 3rd party insurance with them before, you will get an increased NCB compared than you would if you had started from scratch.
But yeah, research is always good.

YES! I asked so many companies and most of them wouldn't touch me because Im under 25 (im 22) and other comapnies like NRMA were asking to much (around $5700). Also I have never held a policy under my own name, I have always been put down as an additional driver on my parents cars. So most of the other companies would say that they cant tranfer my no claim bonus because I have never held a plicy in MY OWN name. But when I bought my FTO, the dealer gave me a number of an insurance company and he told me that this company is quite cheap with insuring imports. He said they also can tranfer your no claim bonus even if you have only been put down as an additional driver on another vehicle's policy. Well, I called them and sure enough they have offered me a policy of $2500 premium. That's great!
However, if there is anyone who is currently with or has been with Famous Car Insurance. Could you please let me know your experience with them. For example, was making a claim a problem? Was the service good? etc, etc.
I would greatly appreciate some feedback.
Thanks all

im 24 and paying $1813 through just car insurance. How much are you saying the car value is? I have gone an agreed value rather than market value - i got the car for 15500 so that is all i insured it for. I think the market value is higher.
Have to share this one.... When i phoned just car insurance they asked have i had insurance before - i said not under my own name except for a thrid party property policy for one year. THey must have missed me saying that the first time around or something because she then went on to say ok, with no previous insurance we can insure u at rating 4 (for the above mentioned premium). I then said did you not count my year on thrid party property, she said nope i didnt hear you say that, she recalculated and said ok, you will be a rating 5 starting at $2400ish. I politely
poceeeded to let her know that this was the stupidist thing i had ever heard of (i had no claims for that one year) and which dumbass came up with such a system. She then got her manager and we chatted and then she agreed that it was a stupid system and that i would start on rating 4 regardless....
I also tried famous - they wanted 2000. Shannons would insure me, as i told them i am a car entusiast - they asked me why did i buy the car first off. They are expensive at lower ratings (3800 for rating 4 for me), but i think much cheaper when u head towards rating 1.
Big tip - be pushy and they do try and be competitive. If you dont like their premium amount, and somewhere else has a better price mention it they may try and match it. If your parents have had a car stolen - dont mention them!!!! FTO's are high price for two main reasons - panels are hard to source cheaply and they are a car that people like to steal. Any previous theft claim will boost the premium up.
Long post i know, but hope it helps.
