No MIVEC !!

Post by piper »

I seem to hit a rev limiter at 6500 rpm and assume the Mivec is not functioning correctly, but a bit stuck about what to do. Any ideas ??

Sorry - Just realised the time difference . - Here in the U.K. it's early evening.

Have you given the car time to warm up?
If the engine is cold the ECU brings the rev limter down to prevent you wrecking the engine! Give the car 10 mins to warm up before thrapping it!

Has the car had a replacement alternator? If the car has had replacement it could be a GR alternator (2 Pin). The GPX alternator is 4 pin and control's the Mivec switching.

Check your ECU for error codes. It may report a fault which can be associated to the non functioning Mivec.

Yep, could be what TheDigitalPimp said, and I had the same question previously. If the car is warmed up enough and you're still not hitting MIVEC, then it could also potentially be the knock sensor which is buried in the middle of the engine. I'm only guessing but the ECU Fault Codes may be able to tell you this so check this first.

Great help - thanks very much. I got code 64, which says something to do with the alternator. Do I just get it replaced ??

Piper The alternator plug is the problem and its quite common too. When that plug is loose or broken the mivec does not function.

Check the plugs. I think there is three all up. one could just be earth. take them off and clean them and then reattach them. Your alternator itself is fine so dont replace it.

Good luck
