Problem with tacho (only happened once so far..)
Hi,
I've only recently obtained an FTO, and I was driving it over the weekend when at one stage (probably 1-2 mins), the tacho stopped working and the needle was all the way at "0". It started working again after a couple of minutes and hasn't done it since. Has anybody had this problem before and if so, what did you do to fix it?
Also have 2 quick questions:
What are the stock speaker sizes for the front and rear?
What is the stock rim and rubber size combination for the GPX?

turn off your head lights and stereo and your battery should be chaging somewhere between 12.5-14.4V. try adding some water to your battery and check the terminals for rust and corrosion. If that don't work it could be a couple of things causing this problem.ahew wrote:thanks devil2004.
hey all, was just thinking about my tacho problem and i think it has to do with my battery... i don't know if this is normal or not but the battery fluctuates between 12.5v to 12v (or just under 12v) when I'm driving. Is this normal?
1. Battery is starting to die and not charging fully- which I doubt because the voltage reading should still be above 12.5V
2. Alternator is not working properly - possible
3. Alternator belt loose - just a guess, dunno if this would affect it
The tacho dropping off for a minute could be just a loose connection somewhere in your dash. Did everything stio working or just the tacho?

yeah I'll do all that today and see what happens. Will report back my findings if this happens again.
the tacho was the only thing that wasn't working, speedo etc was working fine. come to think of it, it was pretty hot that day that the tacho stopped working too. may be a loose connection but where would I have to check?

shows you how to remove the dash. There might be a loose connection behind the dash.
Good luck!

ahew, I am having the exact same problem with the tacho just stopped working. Every now and then it will come good for a little while and then stop again. I have taken mine to a tacho repair place and he tells me there is nothing wrong with the tacho itself and that the issue is either the wiring or the connection. He couldn't go further without the workshop manual, but at least I know it isn't my tacho
I will keep you up to date on anything I find out. Would appreciate if you could keep posting here aswell. Maybe between the 2 of us (and others of course
we can get it working again.
