Suspension - Strut Mount Pricing

Hi All,

After 6 months with new suspension bushes, droplinks etc etc etc I thought it was about time to bite the bullet and upgrade to some Koni shocks and King Springs.

I am looking at replacing the strut mounts at the same time and got a quote off Mitsubishi for replacement items. Does the following sound correct?

Front strut mount (MR131420) - $174.20 each
Rear strut mount (MB910847) - $69.80 each

Can anyone confirm the above?

I think I may go and buy some Cusuco mounts instead........

Hey Chris,

Yeah - just been down this road. I've seen prices ranging from 120 - 190 a pop for the front mounts. I went for the Tein Pillows from Camskill UK & they worked out to be $350 AUS landed. Swear by them - great product. Odd thing was thou, the rear Tein tops were more expensive than the fronts So I just put the stockers in. They were $130 for the pair (that was Northshore Mitsi)

I think I'll try to get by without replacing them at this stage.......

Otherwise the Cusco top mounts off www.perfectrun.com.au work out to be about $400 plus freight for all 4.

Not sure if I could deal with the extra harshness in ride comfort though......Tasmanian roads aren't that smooth.

sorry guys, but i thought the top mounts came with the suspension.

just to make sure, the top mounts are the top of the suspension with 3 bolts? or is it the bit with with the black rubber bit on it?

Got mine from Pedders for about $66 each. They are the same as a CC Lancer.

Another noob question, what is and what does strut mounts and bushes do?

Top mount/strut top may or may not come with suspension purchase. If you were to buy full struts, then they do. If you were to buy Bilstein inserts like I did, you dont. They fit inside the existing strut (in other words, you user the original springs, the original strut top).

Best to find out what is included before you buy.

Ohhh ... that part, mine for the plastic part is little bit split apart, is that mean i have to replace mine? and what does the stuct top really do?

The plastic cap that covers the nut does not really matter. If its slightly split, will not effect anything. The strut top does have a bearing in it however. two things happen to these over time. Firstly, this thing is made of two bits of metal with rubber in between. Over time, the rubber collapses and you get a nasty metal on metal noise when you go over bumps. All Mitsis of this era are notorious for this problem. Additionally, the bearing will eventually collapse. Short answer: if you have noises in the front end (particularly metal on metal sounds), it is quite possible that your strut tops are on the way out. As to what the strut top does, as far as I know (im not an expert), it cushions the car (to a degree) from the jolts that are sent through the suspension.

As to the bushes, there are several of these, each having its own role in relation to suspension. This is where it gets fuzzy for me. Unfortunately, someone with a better understanding of these parts will be required to explain it in terms that make sense. The little I can explain is below:

Droplinks (these are on front and rear).

Anti-rollbar bushes (also front and rear) - these are between the anti roll bar and the brackets that hold it on. Can get them (all 4) for about $30 from Mitsubishi.
