anyone know where to get a key with an immobiliser?

Post by devil2004 »

When I bought my car I only got one key and I want a spare. It's got an immobiliser thingy built inside it and it also have central locking on it aswell. I took it to the locksmith and he said that it's got some crystal in it which he didn't have. Than I asked a Mitsubishi dealer but he wasn't much help, he just said " Nah, we don't do keys for imports"

Anyone have one of these keys or knows where to get one from?

The crystal set is much like you'd find in a remote control car. One in the car, one in the remote. Some locksmiths can do them in moulded keys, but I think you might find it easier to have the crystal set replicated into a button type arrangement (like a key ring button immobilser thing.)

I used to know a bloke in Barrenjoey locksmiths in Brookvale (Syd) who could do them, but am unsure if he's still there...

Hmmm i was able to order it from mitsubishi dealer before, it cost $60 for the key & $120 to program it. But i did cancel the order as it took too long.

yeah, someone said they could make me a keyring that could duplicate the signals but he was after $360 for it :(

I will try Mitsubishi again anf if that fails then I'll try Barrenjoey locksmiths.

Thanks for the help guys!

Dick Smith and I think Jaycar have remotes you can program from your own sender unit, I have not tried if they are OK, but they are about $30/$35. could be worth a shot!
