On the bright side... Well, the dimly illuminated side I guess... While the transmission is out I can always upgrade the clutch plates, flywheel etc etc! How's that for a "Glass Half Full" mentality?

I KNOW As I said... The diagnostic came back clean... No errors... Even though my oil levels were all good the mechanic said that the oil seemed 'burnt'! Therefore he said it had to be an internal problem! Just so I can cover my bases... Where are the best places to source a used FTO transmission? Just any Jap wrecker???
Another question? What about the new Magna Tiptronic transmissions?
And lastly...I have the 4 speed Tiptronic in now, if I managed to source a 5 speed would I be able to drop it in with no worries or would other mods have to be made?
Now if you'll excuse me... I need to go and have a good cry!

hey NorthQLD
jsut a note
many palces dont have the right computer to check
as u need their computer to have the MUT-II program
msot likely the place you went to check use a computer called "launchX"
as i think mitsubishi cars in aus dont use the MUT-IIprogram thats why normal places you go check that has computer says you dont have error code
i have experience this and its really *~delightful!~*!
i checked it at 2 different transmission spcialist and one mechanic
in the end i went back to north shore mits jsut for computer diagonisitic and costed me 30bucks for a 2min job lol
Uh huh! Okay so I've told the mechanic to go ahead and check the transmission after the diagnostic came back clear! Should I tell him to ease off & find out about his diagnostic program first... I don't want to waste money???

u should
u will save a lot of money from paying for labour
thats why they inventsed the computer anywayz
to save tiem and money
go to a mits dealer in your area that deals with imports is your best bet
not very expensive for jsut a diagnosis compared to payign like 90/hr for labour getting them to check all sensors or crack up the gearbox!!!
Verdict is in...
Apparently my 'gear lifter pump' has blown! I've been told by the mechanic that getting a replacement part in Oz is next to impossible (but he's trying) my only other option is to get the part from Japan & it's looking like a $3000-$3500 cost for fixing the problem...
Any ideas or comments would be appreciated...

He's pretty cluey & chances are they have the part you need.
Prices are in NZ (which is a little less than Aus dollars) and there's no import duty or taxes due to our trade agreements with them. Everythin I've ordered through them has taken less than 4 days to get here (Sydney)
Thanks Bennoz... Emailing them as we speak... Uh, type! You know what I mean...

Were good people to deal with
Just a note the flashing N and stuck in 3rd gear is Limp mode
which the car goes into when a fault is detected for it's own protection
i had a it before mine was the speed sensor.
But it could be a number of things
I think the advice about the MUTII diagnostic is the way i would go
Wow for that kind of money you could get a manual conversion and eliminate all electrical problems..
Limp mode is pretty common, car does it regardless of what the problem is, once it senses something,... I find it hard to believe it went into limp mode and still returned no errors. I would have it double-checked before I let them play around too much.
At $3500, you'd have to be thinking about a halfcut as an option. Theyre not too much more than that and you then have either a spare engine to play with or you could flog off all the bits.
Okay... An update from my end... First up, the mechanic does have the MUTII software, he deals with a lot of imports (and with the convincing line up of Supras, Skylines & a GTO in his shop I'm inclined to believe him)... the transmission is now back in the car & he assures me the problem is 100% fixed, I'm picking up the car on Monday, will let you all know how things go...
