are you likely to get better MPG running the fto on lower RON fuel than higher stuff?
I dont work out the MPG figures mainly coz i'm lazy but i would suspect you get better mpg running on higher ron fuel. e.g. optimax or bp ultimate (98ron+ fuels).
Just having a discussion with my mate as he started going on about how i'd need my ecu remapped for lower ron fuel which you can get in the uk. i told him that wasn't the case as the fto ecu had mad skills but even with the self adjustment in mind does that mean better mpg/lower ron fuel?
Thats right.
The FTO is tuned for higher RON fuel.. cause Australia'a premium unleaded is the rest of the world regular unleaded
If I use regular unleaded down here (around the 92 or less RON) the car pings like a bitch.
The stock ECU can only make so much adjustment.
That why cars out here - like the Peugoet 306 - must either be 'de-tuned' to deal with our sh*t fuel - or filled up on the best premo we can find. The better the RON rating, the better the combustion is & the better the MPG is.
I think we can only get at least 95ron fuel so i may be ok. I only ever run my car on super unleaded though and depending on if i'm feeling flush some shell optimax or bp ultimate.
Well Si I use sainsburys standard fuel cause its cheapest and have tried the super duper stuff but cant tell any difference.. so just fill up for a couple of times on super to clean it every now and then, then back to cheapy stuff. As for the mph.. nah cant be bothered to work it out
I agree, FFS, 10c a litre more for a 55L tank is = $5.50, that if you fuel up when you fully empty each time.
I don't know why people think they're saving heaps with cheap ass fuel, when 98rons perform much better & can get more KM/mileage out of it.
I'm talking about in Oz not in UK. And i do feel sorry for you Pommy with your petrol prices.
