Changing Injectors. Big Job?

Post by RedlineGX »

Hi I'm changing my injectors soon and was wondering how hard a job is this? I'm used to working on my car (oil, brake, plugs, change and FPR and pump fitting etc) but not sure if this is out of my league. Anyone got any clue as to whats involved to remove and replace teh injectors?

Will I need any special tools for instance? If anyone has done this and would like to post a basic step by step I would really appreciate it.
Thanks guys.

Its quite an easy job.
You need to remove your intake manifold as if you were doing the spark plugs (as the rear bank of injectors are under it.) The trickiest bit is then avoiding fuel going everywhere when you remove the fuel rails. Disconnect the fuel line from the leading rail - I use a phillips head screw driver to slot stright into the fuel line (keep the spring clip on the hose)
That effectively stops any leaking fuel from that end. Then remove the 4 bolts holding the rails on & carefully pull them up & lean then over to the right (the trailing fuel rail is still connected to the fuel return line. Just go easy when pulling the rails off as they will pop off the top of the injectores. Then its just a matter of pulling the electrical leads off the injectors. They then just pop out with a little jiggling.

I would highly recommend not driving the car for some hours before doing this (overnight would be better) & avoid doing it in the sun.

Hope that helps.
Ben.
