Take radio out or leave radio in?

Post by conscience »

Hey guys. I've been wondering about whether I should take my radio out when I leave the car for the day or just leave it in? Its not a particularly expensive one ($200-$300) but it would definately be a pain to have the car broken in to and it stolen.

Have you guys had any experiences with this? Are they likely to break in anyway and look to see if I've put it in the glove box? Is perhaps putting it in the glove box a good compromise between leaving it in and having to take it with you?

I'd like to hear your thoughts on the matter :)

Cheers.

I use to always take mine out when i first got it. Now i dont bother anymore. Guess it just depends on the individual, and on where your parking the car...

are u talking about the actual unit or just the detachable face??? if u mean the whole unit then... why bother? there are heaps of other cars with head units visible, and also if u take out the whole unit, it means u ahve to plug all the wires/cables back in...

Generally I determine whether or not I'm going to take it out by looking at where I'm parking. If it's adodgy place I sometimes find somewhere else to park.

If I'm leaving the car parked in a public place for a long period of time I might take the face plate off and just chuck it in the glove box. The objective is to make them think your headdeck might not be worth the effort of breaking in.

ehhehhe I also thought you mean you going to take out the whole unit as well ahahaa.

Anyway, if its detachable face, then I would take it out reqardless where i parked the car, to me there is no such thing as a "safe place" if you going to park a car for a long period of time, sooner or later some "nosy" people will come & check it out, as it had been in the same spot for a while.

And if you going to take it out, please put it some where else other then your glove box or center console, because its like you locked your house front door, but left the key under the door mat.

take the face off dude. The last thing u need is a broken window repair bill with a stolen radio. Not worth the HF
Especially if yr parking in a certain place for a long period of time.

I always take the face off. If in a really dodge place, I leave the glovebox open so that anyone who might look in can see that there is nothing in there worth nicking either.
