getting pulled over in NSW

Post by fto617 »

hey guys
how do you know if u get a fine or defect fine?
i went straight on a roundabout with a police following behind me
and this was during school zone hour
that guy flashed his lights at me and pulled me over saying
i didnt use my indicators !!!
(do u need t indicate when going straight?? 8O 8O )
anywayz he also said my exhuast is a defect because it is not stock standard
he didnt give me any paper sto tell me to pay fine
but i saw him write down my details in a little book with my home and mobile phone number
he just told me to get my exhuast checked at RTA for engineering cert
so i jsut want to know if i actually got fined for not indicating as he wrote in a little book with my number and stuff?
the cop didnt believe my car was under 20k lol he thought i was lyign to him and he called up rta to check the purchase price on the rego record haha

hummmmmz

sounds like u bumped into a full BYTCH. was he behind u when u were going thru the round about? ie/ seeing the whole thing? or onli the part where u were exiting the round about?

and it doesnt have to be a stock exhaust! as long as its not emitting too much smog and/or noise :!:

yea he was right behind me
i pick up my sis ter from school to go home as well
wasnt even speeding
he jsut said my exhuast is very easy for police to locate
so do u think i got a fine?
i didnt want to ask him jsut incase i didnt and he would give me one if i asked
do i only get fined if i get the paperworks on the spot?

they can send it in the post, however I doubt he will seeing as he would need to test the exhaust before issuing a fine, He cannot just issue a fine based on his judgment of whats loud.
I Imagine he toook your details incase there is any complaints about your car

Consider yourselves lucky - in NZ, cops can do exactly that 8O

don't worry dude! They can't issue you a defect without testing your exhaust with a sound instrument, plus most cops don't have the certificate to issue defect notices. It must be done by a qualified cop.

As for the non indication fine, they might send you that through the mail. Did he have another police officer in the car with him? cos if he didn't then they can't issue the fine without a witness.

Hope it all turns out good for you!

Round-a-bouts 101

Turning left: indicate left 30 metres before entering the round-a-bout and during the turn.
Going straight: indicate left as soon as you pass the last exit before your exit.
Turning right: indicate right 30 metres before entering the round-a-bout, during the turn and then indicate left as soon as you pass the last exit before your exit.

He's right.

Whenever exiting a roudabout you're supposed to indicate that you are leaving the circle.

And how could you not see the copper behind you? :?

the little book is just their note book...he might have taken your details to check if you take your car to get it tested.
Regarding the fine, he should have givent it on the spot since he pulled you over and actually made verbal contact with you.
best bet get it checked that way you cover your ass with that annoying copper.

u cant get an engineers certificate if its too loud. U need to take it to a RTA testing place (some exhaust shops do it) and then they will see whether yr car is under or over the legal limit. It will say the places u can take it to on the letter that comes in.

U can put a silencer on but it cant be a removable one or else they'll dick_ ya. Best bet is to put the stock air box on it.

I had to have mine tested and i got 85dB which is 5 dB under the limit but mind u i put the stock air box back on or else i would have been around 95dB.

Hope that helps.
