Advice on speeding ticket please.
A friend of mine was test driving a car today and got caught doing 143kmh in a 90 zone. The dealer who was with him said to tell the cops that the accelorator stuck and my friend had to change lanes to avoid driving into someone. The delaer said that he could get a mechanics report to say that the accelorator had failed and stuck.
It is on police video from inside the cop car.
My mate is looking at $1550 fine and 6 points. Does he take it or try and contest it with the mechanics reports?
Thanks guys.

yeah of corse you should contest it!!!!!!!!!!!!! dont let the pigs take his money.....
another thing you could do is email the or ring the cops and ask for a certificate to show that the tool that he used was calerbrated to the correct standard or ask for the certificate that shows the cop is able to operated it!!
half the cops cannot provide this info
i managed to get off a ticket after i was caught doing 93 in a 50 all because they could not provide the info i requested!!!
hope this helps!!!

[quote="EURO"]if your caught doing 50kph over the limit... then I think your in trouble and deservadly so... very surprised the dealer didnt comment when he was speeding?quote]
Apparently the dealer was a bit of a hoon too. He had been driving it even harder, it was on the trip back that they changed places and my mate got done.

Totally agree. Going that fast on a public road is just asking for trouble.MrFT000 wrote:i dunno...
im generally to the thinking, if your speeding, then cop it on the chin, pay the fine and move on.
if you honestly werent speeding, then gather your evidence, and present it in court.
and good luck.
It's not like they didn't know what they were doing was completley illegal.
This is what is wrong with the world you know - very few people are prepared to accept responsibility for their actions. Always looking for a way out.
Cop it and deal with the consequences.

It is a 6 month loss - trust me
Accelerator got stuck HA!
Thats about as good as the old 'tree' that popped up in the middle of the road...
I reckon your best bet would be to ask for all the certifcations on the gun.
Also query all the other variables, such as did they have the reading done over the required time period (which is 3 seconds.) Was the reading taken parrallel to the road (legal) or was it shot at an angle (not legal)
What were the weather conditions on the day? Bad weather can screw up the old radar readings. Was it a radar or laser pickup? Lots of questions they cant provide answers to may be your only shot at it...

i need advice aswell, i was caught speeding on the queens birthday long weekend on the fridayi got caught doing 68 in a 40 school zone dropping some friends off at cheltneham girls, so i got busted for 15km+.... this was in peak hour traffic and everyone was going about 60 and everyone was basically bumper to bumper, so when i see the 40 sign u cant expect me to slow down to 40 from 60 straight away can u? there is a car about 2metres away from my rear bumper? why would i need to speed anyway i was at my distination (cheltneham girls) hence the 40 zone, can someone give me some advice on what i should do, btw the cop spelt my name wrong on the fine
any advice anyone please?

how were you caught by a cop? of speed camera? if by a cop did you look at his lock on ? the first thing i would do is request the cops log book.. the reason i say this is because every morning the cop is soposed to test his radar equiptment. So his log book will say if he has or not ( half the cops out there dont do this )... if you were caught but a speed camera on a pole the request the picture if there is another car in the picture the you will not have to pay because they cant prove that it was your car speeding!!!
cheers

Hi AJ
Sorry - but I think both your friend and the dealer deserve - at the very least - to lose their licence. In addition to the fine - that sort of speed on a public road is plain lunacy. There are enough organised track days if people want to speed - and if your friend is buying the car for track - surely something could have been organised - if not - then there is no possible valid reason that anyone would need to go that fast on a public road.
Jonowong - I think that if you were speeding - and everyone else - then you all should have been booked. School Zones are 40 for a reason - ever seen a dead child? You don;t really want to - Kids don't think - they react - that is why it is up to supposedly responsible drivers to think for them. Surely if you were dropping your friends at a school - then it is reasonable to assume you knew that it was a school - and what goes with schools?
School Zones
It's not rocket science.
