18's on FTO

Post by Digital_Import »

Just wondering if 18's fit ok on an FTO, looks wise and do the guards have to be done to fit them on? some pics of 18's fitting on a FTO would help too :)
Thanx

18s fit. My car is lowered at the front, and I still fit 18s comfortably with 215/35/18 rubber
My pic was too big.

I have 18s on mine, and they behave just fine, as well as looking sweet. I can't tell you if anything had to be done to get them on, as I've only had the car 6 months or so and they came with it. For some pics check out the website from the previous owner:

18's fit on nicely, but I recommend that you try and get the lowest profile tyre, and you lower the car. Otherwise your car will look like a 4WD. My guards were lipped for my previous set of rims and tyres. I get no rubbing whatsoever with these wheels.

Thanks, Im glad u like it.

A low drive way is very bad. That is what I have to go through everyday, when I drive in and out of my driveway. I have to go extremely slow, and go half way on my next door neighbours driveway just to get out.

I got the other other extreme in driveways, i have to go across my lawn and use the neighbours driveway cause mine is just not useable without having to take the kit off, and my car aint even lowered! :P

Lastly what offset u guys recommend on 18's or what offset do u's use? Just read somewhere some offsets can look ugly on an fto

I wouldn't go up any more than 17"s on an FTO. I saw a few of them with 18"s while i was shopping around, and they were rubbing against the inside of the guards and wearing unevenly, even with low profile tyres... it could possibly be corrected by adjusting the suspension, or lowering like others have said... though, I decided it would be too much dollars, and hassle to get them to behave like they should.
hope this helps.

aye & bye

Lots of variations...
I bought lowered springs out of the UK for $350 (Apex)
Brought the front down 2.5 inches, the back 1.5 inches.
No shock changes & just my own time to do the job - which was about 3 hours with access to a mates hoist and spring compressor...

i am thinking abt 17" or 18" wheel is better....i know 18" will look better, but i done wanna lose much performance. will the performance b/w 17 and 18 have a big different? thanks!

The trade off for been looking good with 18" is a harsh ride on rough road, & a bigger turning circle. It also worn out the suspension faster as well due to the extra weight.

So its really comes down to where you noramlly take your FTO.

Not as strange as with 16s :P
Plus depends on the size of tyres you get.

When I put my 18s on with 35 series low profiles it looked like a 4x4 until I lowered it.
But lowering is cheap anyways.

Yes at the moment I have only changed the springs.
They are King springs super lows from Wilkenson Suspension here in Perth.

I have a friend that works there so I got the cheap and fitted them myself.
Cant remember exactly how much.
