Hey all!
I bought the CAI package from UAS and I got a uni filter with it. I've had it for say 2 years and done about 20,000klm and look what's happened to it?
Plus on top of that my CAI pipe is rubbing on the battery and wearing out. I'll need to replace that aswell soon. Other people who have bought the CAI package should check their filter cos you might be sucking in dust and other stuff into your engine. Check that the bottom isn't splitting like mine.
Anwyays, can anyone out there suggest a new air filter for me???
I use the other type of Uni filter, its call Rush 02 as picture below, i've got the blue housing type. The second picture will have you a better picture of what the filter looks like out of the housing.
I've use mine for 3yrs now, & I clean it & then re-oil it either every 6 mths or 5000km which ever come first. It still look as brand new like the first day i've got it.

Never had a problem with these filters and sold lots to zeds adn other cars. May have had something rubbing on it or just a faulty one. Anyway bring around to us and we will swap it and hopefully we will get a warranty claim on it as I just checked and supplier states 3 year warranty.

there's nothing rubbing on it as I done have the box around it and I think a warranty exchange is outta the question as I have thrown away the reciept, plus I have glued it together to get my car back onto the road again.
so u guys suggest rush 02 or HKS aye? I was looking at the HKS one but not many people supply it.
Does anyone know where to get a new intake pipe for the FTO besides from the UAS and stick one?
And here's a pic of the re-oil kit, well bottle should i say, get the small size, it will last you a while, well mine is still 70% full.

take it to john and he will replace it... they have a copy of the group buy history (or i can supply it to them) so go get a freeby...
i've had mine on the longest and mines fine so there could be some other issue that's causing it...
i used to use the 02rush filters for a couple of years as well. when we were building the kit the unifilter performed slightly better on the dyno than the 02rush which is why it was selected...
Not saying there is anything wrong with the Uni Filter as I have never had one. It would be a much cheaper option in the first instance.
But the FTO Apexi kit works fine with the UAS kit (already had the filter fitted) as long as you don't mind shaping the supplied Apexi brackets a bit in a vice to get a nice fit.
Although there shouldn't be a problem with oil in the intake if your not running an AFM. (just ask any WRX driver who has recently replaced one due to an oiled filter)
kid_dynamite wrote:Personally I reckon you throw away the uni filter and get a non oiled one, like the Apexi Power Intake..
Hmm, let me think - filter that allows oil into the intake vs no oil. It's a no brainer!
Well then you better close off your crank case breather so you don't put oil into your engine ... (its that little pipe that connects to the intake piping near the throttle body)
seriously though, the oil based foam filters actually trap a lot more of the dirt grit that the paper filters let through... at the end of the day its upto everyone as to what they want to use, i prefer foam filters.
I ran an oil based filter (a K&N) on my AFM equipped VR-4 for 4 years and never had a problem with it. And it gave a noticeable increase in performance over the stock crappy airbox...
