RPW engine pipe vs UAS engine pipe

Did a search on this didnt find much sooooo

For those who have either could u please inform me on the likes and dislikes, performance differance and also how much in total you paid... I have a 95 GPX tip with cat back exhaust.

There were lots of posts on this topic before, but don't know what happen to them, I can't even find my own review version. I know Joel did one as well.

Lucky I always save a copy of the original posts (without editing) that i find interesting ehehehe so here you go.

1. Notice more noise from exhaust & under bonnet, during normal driving speed at 60-100km, but thats expected. Although itâ€™s nosier i'm sure it will still pass EPA test, due to i got the extractor heat wraped & with a silencer at the exhaust tip.

2. Most Tip people will experience that when you slow down your car, the gear remained in 3rd, & you don't get much "kick in" or "pull" when u try to floor it.

But after the extractor installed, it actually "pull" & even went to the mivec range without manually change the gear. I think this was contributed by longer length extractor, almost double the length of the factory one, which in theory it should give you more torque in mid to high range.

The UAS pipe only connects the standard exhaust manifolds to the cat (in a more efficient way than standard) where-as RPW dont just make a connector pipe, they supply entire exhaust manifolds & the pipe to suit it (connects all the way to the cat as well.)

The UAS pipe is a good cheap power gain - but if its real power your looking for, go with the RPW extractors. Also bear in mind extractors are going to cost you more to install than the UAS pipe.

I would go extractors!
more gain! plus when you get extractors you probaly save about 10+ kilos from your car, as the stock ones are cast iron!

yeah boris didnt you pull 124 with just extractors zorst and cai? as a comp we are both mivec, both use good filters and both have exhausts and i only pull 106.4

its fairly well documented in the uk extractors are about the best mod for hte fto full stop

makes the car less front heavy and gives you uber more powerover any ohter mod!

I'm in Perth, and bought the UAS downpipes from Over East. Personal preference over convenience, hehe!

The UAS pipes cost $400 plus shipping (end of year sale). Fitment was easy, with the only issue being the bolt holes at the cat end... they weren't the right diameter for the original bolts. We used different ones to refit.

The flex joints are buzzy on throttle-off, but only between 4000rpm down to 3200rpm. I reduced this noise by covering the flex joints in exhaust wrap.

Here is the dyno graph showing the power curve before and after. It was unchanged below 5600rpm (or so), but improved from that point to redline:

This was done in 3rd gear. Changes on the vehicle were:

- UAS downpipes.
- Ultrasonic injector clean.
- Valve clearance adjustment.
- New spark plugs.

Note that this is a graph of power and AFR, not power and torque.

Old peak bhp was 146.2 at the wheels. New is 149.1.

There was another RPW/UAS downpipe comparison topic, but it mostly involved name calling and chanting "Your downpipes smell! No, you smell! No you do!". You might want to avoid that one!

Hehe & I pulled a 105kW with extractors, CAI & TB... and im non-mivec! but I got cams

And when they figure out WTF is wrong with my SMT6 I'll be in the running for some good horsey readings!!

Hey Rich,
I paid about 700 for the RPW extractors & pipe. It was a 4 letter word to fit because im non-mivec, the stud pattern on the heads are ever so slightly different as was the cat connection. I get a sh_tload of buzz on throttle off & same as you I've tried wrapping it with limited success. As far as Kw increase (or in your case HP!) it was huge compared to other mods I've done - unfortunately no dyno results to show (especially after forking out 700 for the pipes...) Got a full 2 & 1/2" stainless ass end with 'High Tech' brand mufflers. Its got a nice low burble at idle & sounds raspy and angry whilst giving it a push. But yeah, very happy with end result.

Your mods gave you a few horseys:
For the kids out there 1.34hp = 1kW
Therefore your before is 146.2hp = 109.70kW
Then your after mod is 149.1hp = 111.22kW.
Picked up 1.52kW

I reckon you'd get more than twice that difference with extractors.... at least.

Unfortunately, when I went shopping 12 months ago, "I reckon" was all I could get in terms of indicative results from the local supplier. Not good enough for me to shell out my hard-earned.

The UAS y-pipes had comparison dyno results published, full disclosure on the specifics of the test, etc. I didn't need an iron-clad guarantee that I "would" get exactly those results... I simply wanted an indication that the designer had (a) tested them, and (b) had published those test results.

Perhaps things have changed in the last 12 months. Perhaps not. But in mid-2004, that's what I made my decision on, pure and simple.

I hear ya mate! "I reckon" was pretty much all I got on purchase...
Call me traditional thou, i put pipes on all my old carby fed guzzlers & it worked a treat. Figured the theory was sound on the FTO & was happy with it

Its this computer run engine business thats giving me grief. Whatever happened to just "put in a bigger main jet & advance ya dizzy"... memories

I paid $710 for the pipes - no HPC coating. I didn't think it was worth the extra $220
