Stop Selling your cars so cheap!

I plan on keeping my FTO for at least another year, but at this rate it will only be worth 10 grand by the time I sell it.

I keep seeing FTO’s in the for sale section for 12-14 grand, when it was only less than 2 years ago, they were all going for $17,000+.

For god sakes skylines are worth more then FTO’s now, and there are heaps more of them in the country.

Stop selling your Cars for so cheap and the resale value’s will hold. If everybody sold their FTO for $16,000+ then the resale price will hold up for a lot longer.

Anyway, just thought i might start an interesting thread.

a good example of a car will always hold its value....(to a degree)
If your FTO is in good condition, well maintained etc then a "motor vehicle" enthusiast will pay good money for it... so you will EVENTUALLY get what you want.

I think the key to selling is how much time you have. If your in a hurry then obviously you dont have the time to hold your price. so in the case of people heading overseas or wanting a quick sell, I imagine they want whatever cash they can get.

I always think its better to list your car when your not necessarily wanting to sell. This way you have time to hold the price.
I had my lancer advertised at 16000 for 6 months (the same price as i bought it 12 months earlier) and I only received one call. The first caller, bought it though cos it was in good condition. I didnt necessarily want to sell, but because I got a good price I did, didnt lose any moneny (apart from transfer fees) and then was able to buy my FTO. Put whatever price you want on your FTO... if you planning on selling in 6-12 months it might be worth listing it soonish and seeing what some people will offer.

as for skylines being worth more then FTO's.. well its personal choice.. skylines are faster, and RWD so for some people this is much mroe appealing...

The other thing about FTO's is they were and still are overpriced in some areas... some people are still askign 25-30 grand for 97' FTO's... I wasnt going to pay that three years ago, and still wouldnt today...

remember too, if you claim your vehicle on tax like I do, they will claim depreciation.. and a car over two years will depreciate a fair bit over two years. So some of those prices you see advertised are probably about right...

hahahhah Well stop selling cars to oversea students, & the problem will be solve!! As I said before all the cheap "half baked" one are belong to oversea students.

yeah, the overseas students tend to sell their car in the last week that their here and drop their price to a ridiculous amount

Yeah, it's all about them wanting to get rid of the car ASAP, but really all they need to do is probably visit a few car dealers, and they will give you more

If i ever sell my FTO, it wount be a rush sale... i want the new owner to love it as much as i love it..

but yeah, it's a bit silly.... but i can't complain as i bough my FTO for 14.5k just over a year ago.

I have worked out a solution to this problem: from now on, overseas students can only sell their cars to incoming overseas students who are about to start their studies here.

Makes sense to me...

Who wants to be in charge of enforcing this new rule?
