I think you better off buying a manual lancer (cheaper) and adapt the tip box just like changing auto to manual.

As to what model my TB came off I'm not sure. All I know is that when we went to a wrecker and found this TB labeled TR Magna and did a quick measure up and yes it is 65mm. It could be off TE TJ or TH, for as long as the engine capacity is 3.0 - 3.5

I wudnt make much of a difference pwoer wise, but responsiveness of the engine will improve and expect to gain more flow if the intake path bored out to match the bigger TB.

Erm, some questions:HRD2BQT wrote:The TB itself is a bolt on unit but I swapped the bottom part (water/coolant valve i think it is) of the FTO's to the Magna's TB to make use of the OEM hose fittings. The one's on the Magna is facing the opposite direction, u can still use it but you'll need to change the hose fitting to a longer ones.
1) you say its a direct fit becos it bolts on the exact same places rite?
2) but the bottom is opposite? do you have a pic of both? I done quite understand the swapping of the bottoms portion

3) how much is it?
Cheers

The TB itself is a bolt on unit. The reason why i swapped the water/coolant valve is bcoz my rubber hose fitting is a little too short to hook up wd the magna TB valve. I also mentioned there that U can still use the stock magna if u r prepared to change the hose. There's no real big deal. Or perhaps you can adjust the actual connector to face just like d stock FTO valve but make sure you re-seal it wd teflon to avoid leaks.
It didn't cost mo anything, str8 swap it was.

Okie, let me paraphrase that.HRD2BQT wrote:The TB itself is a bolt on unit. 1) the TB from Magna is direct bolt on (all mounting points)
2) the bottom of the FTO TB(water/coolant) is removed from the FTO TB and bolted onto the bottom of the Magna TB. The mountings of the two different water/coolant valve is exactly the same on the underside of the 2 TBs except for the fact that the inlet/outlet is exactly opposite on the 2 TBs. this way, we can plug in the OEM FTO hoses to the new Magna TB.
Sorry for being longwinded

Does anyone know if Mitsy has a Tb thats bigger than 65mm? direct bolt on as well??
Cheers

I now have a spare 65mm TR magna TB - $80 bucks for anyone who wants it. Personally I reckon it would be a real pain in the ass to fit - especially with the spring return on the wrong side... and if you flip it upside down - sure you could still mount it, but then your cooling lines are sticking straight up
Also bear in mind: Sure the inlet is 65mm, but the butterfly valve is still only 60mm (same as FTO.)
It was just coincidence that when I went to take mine off, I found it was already done BIGGER AND BETTER! (God bless Ralliart modified cars)
Whats been done to mine? The entire length of the unit is bored out to 65mm. A 65mm butterfly has been used, the opening area has been machined in a gradual increase from 65mm at the butterfly to 68mm at the end of it.
Remeber gradually 'throttling' air smoothly from a large diametre to a smaller diametre can have its advantages. The air cools and becomes more dense (ie better combustion) and it also speeds up as it is goes into the smaller are - turbo owners will know more on this topic.
It no wonder I've never had any pedal response issues...
But yeah - If you wanna try this, Ive got a spare unit from the Magna

My friend got me a couple of throttle bodies to play around wiht last night.
And it looks like that some of the Gen 2 magnas have a 60mm TB and some have 65mm.
All the Gen 3 V6 magnas have a 65mm one.
The main problem is that all the gen 2 TB's have the throttle spring and the wrong side.
So it looks like the Gen 3 ones are the way to go.
