Mitsubishi evo IX
Just saw that the new motor magazine has a review of the new EVO IX. Its also in the new Hot 4's or something as well.
Looks pretty cool, at least they have taken off that "new nose" on all the mitsubishis, it almost has gone back to the older shape.
It was pitted against a STI and both cars are now getting to 0-100 in about 4.5 seconds!
Didnt get to read the whole article but the interesting thing was that this EVO uses a MIVEC TURBO - could this help guys out who are turboing their FTO's?

Yeah Mitsubishi Jap release it last mth, due here by end of the yr
its still same 4G 2.0L, but with Mivec, & the price its a bit cheaper, since they planning to bring it as a normal production instead of low volume import.
And hopfully we getting the 206kw spec, & not the 190kw euro crap.
Hmmm i wonder if they do a special for group buy??

I think this new front is way better then the 8 (except not sure about the two circular areas on the front bumper).
Agreed about the back though - looks great.
There is also these "shark teeth" structures on the roof? (or rear wing) that is meant to help with aerodynamics and down force - not so sure it looks that great though! I dont think they are visible on those pics.
I think the interior is starting to look a lot nicer. THe evo 6 was almost identical to the standard lancer which was a bit of a disapointment!

Yeah, those things are called the vortex generators - to help downforce:EURO wrote:There is also these "shark teeth" structures on the roof? (or rear wing) that is meant to help with aerodynamics and down force - not so sure it looks that great though! I dont think they are visible on those pics.!

Not sure whether or not they are standard on the IX, but they were on the MRs.
Here's a link to some video footage of the 9 driven by Panizzi:

I believe the 'MIVEC' is a lot simpler than that on, say, the FTO 6A12, and that it is on the inlet cam only. No increase in lift, no second cam lobe, just variable phasing inlet valve control. Sounds a bit like a marketing exercise to keep up with the VVT on the WRX STi...
But better than none at all....

"The biggest modification to the EVO IX, or indeed any EVO since 1992 is the addition of the MIVEC technology to the long lived 4G63. .......The 4G63 now features variable cam timing for increased flexibility"
So afterburner I think you are right, and that the mivec is a lot simpler then that of the FTO ... what do they use on the colts and pajeros etc with MIVEC?
