Debranding

I'm just intrigued as to what the appeal with debranding a car is. I see so many FTO's with the GPX sticker and the front bonnet emblem or in an extreme case, indyfto's "U LIKE" car with the FTO emblem bogged up.
Personally, I'm damn proud to drive an FTO and want everyone to know it. I just wish my car still had the branding on it. I assume it was removed to respray and they never bothered to replace the stickers.
So what's the appeal with pulling them off voluntarily?

I debadged all my cars, in my opinion it give the car a smoother look, & got nothing to do with brands.

same here... i got rid of all of my stickers... its not that im not proud to drive the car, its more of a style thing to me.... some people like stickers, some people don't...

Yeah my decision to delete all badging was about 50/50 being: Makes the car look cleaner, less cluttered etc...which I tried to do in great lengths as you would be aware on the exterior - deleted rear spoiler, widened no plate recess (no ugly bent plates), twin symettrical mufflers, blended front bumper, etc...all in the name of "smoothness". Secondly, I got fed up with people looking over their shoulder when driving past and seeing them say it's a Mitsubishi. Had I have left the FTO embossing on the back, most people wouldn't have a clue what it means anyway nor what brand it comes from! Same with the MIVEC stickers until recently. Personally I think it leaves others with more curiousity and interest when looking. Ironically enough though I thought the seats looked too plain when retrimmed so I had FTO emblems embroided on and also on the front mats too. Above all though it's really just about creating what you want and what you like the look of the best.

I agree - I am the same. If any of my cars are missing factory badging or decals, I usually try and find some replacements. This is mainly because I want people to know what sort of car it is. For example, with my current car I want to show that it is a Version R and not just your standard FTO (not that most people know what a vR is anyway

). And there are other reasons - I thought the front of my car looked a bit blank above the radiator intake, so I bought a chrome 3-diamond badge from Mitsubishi that usually goes on a Diamante (Magna for you Aussies) and put that on ... and I think it looks better. I've never really understood the whole debadging thing either, except maybe for full on show cars.

But that's purely my opinion, and its always going to be a completely subjective thing...

But it also depends what car you have.

I don't think I'll be debadging my Ferrari anytime soon (j/k)

My car had a dodgy respray to try and hide the fact that it had been in an accident and consequently all of the badges and stickers had been removed. When I got it resprayed I wanted a different coloured badge for the front (which I have yet to find) so at the moment I have no badging on the car at all

I wouldn't mind a silver or a red, half the colour on my red badge has flaked off. Any pointers?

Funnily enough mine had something similar - it had been repainted on one side. But for some reason (and this must have happened in Japan) they had painted around the MIVEC decal on the side of the car

. I have no idea why you would do this - it's not like those decals are hard to come by...

just pop the red diamonds out of the badge and respray them...then pop them back in...

Too me the stickers look cheap and tacky.....most mitsu cars have nice shiny badges......whereas we have crappy stickers.

i assume y'all meant de-badging???

ppl do it so that the car is less cluttered with stickers / badges etc, whereas some ppl (ie: myself) do it because i like to hear nearby onlookers saying "WTF is that?" lol...

I took my rear MITSUBISHI sticker off coz it was cracked and horrible - only to find out the previous owner had stuck it on with something that i can only describe as very much like superglue. It really didn't want to come off.

Used pints and pints of boiling water, credit cards, turpentine, t-cut, cutting paste... everything.

After literally hours of hard graft, it's finally shifted - and it's left a perfect MITSUBISHI embossed into the paintwork. Looks very cool actually!
