I want to go, but before I confirm my ability to go track and not just spectate I need to know EVERYTHING that is involved in getting cleared for some track time.
Not just for my interests, but for my parents as well.
IE: I'm not sure if I need a CAMS license or if that is covered in the cost of the Wakefield 12 months pass.
I'd love to get my car out on the track, just gotta convince the oldies that it's going to be all safe and what not.

well assuming its the same as last year...
entry fee covers everything you require, bar a wakefield track licence which is like 20 bucks i think
requirments are that you wear a helmet, long clothing and that there isnt anything loose in your car, which is checked during scruteneering before track time
its broken up into different classes so its unlikely you'll be gettin lapped by gt-r's, though the occasional evo or rex may be possible
its incredibly safe, probably more so than the actual drive from sydney to golbourn in reality because everyone on the track is there for the same reason, fun, but none of them want to dint their cars so overtaking is limited to essentially the 2 long straights...
wakefield is a very safe track with pretty much the only place where you could realistically hit a wall is on the corner into the main straight and you would have to close your eyes for like 10 secs because its about 200m past the corner, plus its a relativly slow corner
so all in all, id tell your parents its safe
PS im prolly not gonna be able to make it due to financial/time and effort constraints

Wow, this does indeed sound like a lot of fun. I'd love to belt my sexy GR around the track, it would put the suspension and wing to good use
Whats involved in getting a CAM's licence? Are there age or licence type restrictions?
How much work/money usually goes into race prep and the aftermath?? ie. would i need new tyres afterwards? would i need new brakes before and after? oil change to different grade before and after? higher octane fuel then i can buy at a bp?

the amount of work varies on how serious you are...
a service is a must ...
cams is a $50.00 fee (from memory) which at wakefield buys you their license which is valid for 12 months...
how much time and effort you put in is upto you... i normally spend a few weekends testing stuff and well there's a heap of stuff going on my car in the next couple of weeks...
you'll use about 1/3 - 1/2 a set of tyres depending on compound and how much track time you have...
the only time you're going to run into turbos and the like is during open sessions... we will have our own NA class with a couple of Soarers and maybe small 4cyl turbos like 180's... (which are not much faster)...
if you don't have a helmet you can rent one at the track

Am I right in saying that the people racing will be going down on the Saturday for Sunday racing??? All going well I'll come down on the Sunday. Can someone tell me what time racing starts etc?? I could bring a couple of my helmets if anyone needs one, but if you need them Saturday for practice I suppose it would be a waste of time...

the spectators group will leave homebush (or normal spot) around 8am...kazbah wrote:hmmmmm, so you're talking early, early here say around 5:00am start? Oh well it is for a good cause - to see the FTO on the track. Is it possible to meet up with you guys somewhere so I'm not driving by myself?
not sure if tanya is leading or AJ at this stage we haven't discussed it
