Yeeeeaaaahhhhh another FTO member turn into bikey, suck on that Mikey, now theres at least 3 of us.
Anyway you need at least 4k-5k for a decent bike, & if you get those cheap one, u end up probably replacing every parts of it. So its not worth getting cheapy.

for that price range the only things i think u can get are the Yamaha FZR250 around 1989 model and the Suzuki RGV250, but the RGV250 is not learner legal, but both of them are very nice looking bikes in my opinion!
i would get a bike but... i dont trust myself enough
i think i would have an accident within the first few months of owning a bike

RGV250 is legal in Vic as far as I'm aware of, but I wouldn't get it, because it might be a bit too unpredictable for a Learner due to its power band, just like the Aprilia RS.
Kawasaki ZZR or the Honda CBR-250R (imported) or RR would be a good learner bike.
But if you after look, legal & quiet ok for learner then you can't go pass Kawasaki ZX-2R, the ride would be a bit lower then the other two above, which will give you a great abs work out eheheh

the kawasaki zzr-250 is a great little bike thats in your budget of $2000, these bikes are apparently cheap on parts and stuff like that.... but if save another $1000 and look real hard u can get urself a sexy little honda nsr 150-sp that is dressed in repsol racing colours.
or if u want a cruiser u cant go past the yamah virago 250, there are a few around for that price...
the best thing to do is go to www.bikesales.com.au and have a little look around...
hope it helps

Yeah, always buy gear first, especially go for the good one, its the gear that going to safe you, & makes lots of different during Melbourne unpredictible weather.
Lots of people did the mistake of getting a "cool" bike first but sh*t gears, & end up on the "cool" hospital bed.
