My FTO is consuming too much Fuel

Post by STi »

Hey guys I got a prob with my car, it uses double the amount of fuel.

The trip metre usually goes over 400 but now after a full tank of petrol (Premium Unleaded) is used, the trip displays only around 289.

Im assuming my injectors need cleaning?? Anyone got any sugguestions.

Any other indications may show that car is running rich? eg; black smoke coming out of the exhaust (especially when accelerating fast) or smoky residue around the exaust tip? loss of power?

Are you saying that on a full tank of fuel you get 289? Is this 289 when the fuel light comes on? How hard are you driving?

Normal is like 500km+ when the fuel light comes on.

Anyway, could be a number of things. start with the basics. like maybe fuel filters, injectors. It would be interesting to c what Air / Fuel ratio you have.

Also the funny engine noise is probably the famous mitsubishi tappets.

very easy, only complicated part is to get down there on your knees.
you just need a wire to do this, one end of the wire to the socket another end of the wire to the ground.(use the place where the nearest screw come out from)

Go for the cheaper option to start with and buy some redx to clean the engine out.

Couldnt be as simple as a broken fuel gage? i know i can get bout 60 - 90kms after fuel light comes on, try throwing a tin of fuel in the boot and see how far ya get before your car runs dry.
Whats an FTO?

Well my engine is fine, I just drove to Echuca near the murray river so i guess its pretty reliable. I didnt pur the whole content in the engine, it depends on how much fuel you put in. It was a cheap fix and im happy
