If you want a comfortable ride and lower your car at the same time more than say 40mm then you are better off getting the shocks as well, if you wait for your shocks to go bad and get them replaced later on, then youre up for another $200 labour fee, for that one labour fee you might as well change the springs and shocks at the same time - money permitting of course
I still have front Koni shocks going for $300 for the pair
They are damper adjustable so you can fiddle around until you get the ride quality you want. They are in good condition and are fully rebuildable.
I also have 50mm lowered springs for the front. - $80
If anyone is interested in Cusco pillow ball upper mounts then let me know as well.
Mine has been lowered just over a year now on standard shocks. My King springs lowered the car by ~ 45mm/10mm front and back respectively (measured myself before and after). I have not had any problems to date. The ride is "ok" and to me not much different to std height with 50 series tyres (I have 35 series at present). The only time I really notice the harshness in ride is the THUMP when hitting any irregularity in the road...luckily I don't live in Sydney and have to put up with Parramatta Road
1. fitting lowered springs on standard factory shocks will gradually wear out the shocks even quicker because it is not matched to the load rating of the springs (because it is stiffer)
2. strut braces do not cure bodyroll. it prevents body-'flex'. what you need is a swaybar and properly matched shocks + springs.
3. indyfto, you'll sure be glad you're not driving on melburnian roads which are littered with tram lines and dodgy council roadworks!
lol... f**king tramlines towards boxhill piss me off!
having trams goin into box hill is good i suppose, dont need to pick up my mates n take em dere... coz they just live near whitehorse rd... what pisses me off is dat the new tram lines is making traffic worse, instead of having continuouse double lanes..... everytime theres a tram stop, the lane always merges into ONE...
well the only part of Whitehorse Rd that i travel on is from Elgar Rd onwards (to Springvale Rd) in most cases, with the odd trip to JB near Rooks Rd at Nunawading, so lucky for me I guess I don't need to go to the dentist as often as you guys LOL... :D
YYgirl wrote: i'm just trying to think of ways to save some money. would back shocks need to be replaced if i only lower by 10mm?
put it this way... instead of your factory shocks lasting for 150000kms with std springs, it will only last for about 110-125000kms with lowered springs before it requires replacement. Even before you reach 110000kms, you will feel the suspension becoming very soggy and soft, a usual sign of the shocks giving way...
10mm may not sound like much, but it's still stiffer than original factory springs... having said that, you can still get away with lowered springs on std shocks though. afterall i got std shocks right now with lowered springs but for handling and reliability sake they will be replaced with coilovers soon...
my shocks came out the FTO today.. front right was bent as a pig!!!
And had so much Toe in/out when they put the new shocks on...
needs a wheel alignment tomorrow morning.. No car atm grrrr

yikes, i guess it did alright with 180,000kms under its belt ey? LOL... are they std shock & springs? How much to replace them?
the shocks were rooted lolz, but like i think it happened when i did a run up the dande's one time lol
Springs are fine but i shoulda changed the shocks when i changed the springs...
Don't worry YYGIRL, go and lower your car, don't worry too much bout shocks for now
it just boils down to your budget, yes you can get away with it, but if you plan on keeping your car for a while, or the ks are over 100,000km already then its highly advisable to change the shocks at the same time.
btw yygirl you found springs?? the guy who was gonna buy my kg/mm springs wrote off his car so it looks like its for sale again (and no he didnt put it on yet, actually i didnt even send it to him yet) -40mm front, -15mm back, dual rate, japanese made.
and i haven't bought my springs yet since i'm still thinking what to do, how much were you going to sell them for?? and they are in fully working condition? hehe thanks
