FTO Exhausts

Post by J1 »

Can anyone recommend a good exhaust system for the FTO? I'm considering either APEXi N1 or HKS Hi Power since they don't make the Super Drager anymore.

Anyone got any pics/audio/video files of an FTO with a 5Zigen Fireball? I've heard both the APEXi N1 and Kakimoto exhausts on an FTO and I have to say the latter sounds far better (well in my opinion anyway). G_A_V - check out the Hi Power exhausts at www.hks.com.au.

Another option would be a custom exhaust - anyone know of a good place in Melbourne to get that done?

5Zigen Fireball is OK under cruising speeds, but during any accelleration the tone completely changes into a 600cc bike-ish sound... it just has to be heard to be believed!

as to how loud, well... depends on your definition of loud i suppose... but it wouldn't be far off from the legal limit!!

Here's how it looks like:

I tried a firm here in Brisvagas that wanted to charge over $1000 for a custom one.(custom Exhausts.) Eventually I found Rob Bliss exhausts in Geebung (bris) who custom built one for me for $330. It may not be as flash as some of the hi performance cat backs, but has picked up performance and the guys seemed to know what they were talking about.
While I was there they did a quote on extractors for an FTO, total price was under $700.

$330 for the exhaust system is most likely a mild steel cat-back, but even for that price it's darn cheap... are you sure that includes the muffler as well?? be sure to check the quality of the workmanship afterwards...

J, sorry to be a bearer of not so good news but I have asked HKS here in Sydney and they have told me that the only cat-back system they have for the FTO is the Super Drager. Unless you're just after the HKS Hi-Power(or Hiper) muffler, and get a custom cat-back piping, then that could be a different story.

I have the Apexi N1 cat-back system and I must say the quality is nothing short of exceptional. You can see that the welds on the cat-back pipping are of the highest quality.

As for the sound/noise, I guess it depends what you like. For the N1, suprisingly it's only slightly louder than stock. It's not at all droney. I have the silencer attachment, but I haven't felt the need to use it. And to top it off, if you like me, fancy the Jap angled-style look, you can't go past the N1!

who bought the black fto with russell with the big red mitsubishi badges ?
Russell was telling me about the place that he got his custom exaust form, and I have to say it sounds beaiutiful, he had it done like 3 or 4 times till it sounded right. where did he get it from, cause i might go there for an exaust.

Hey guys,
I have a Ralliart 4 or 5" exhaust, came with my GPX, is that the standard factory exhaust or another aftermarket one.
Only asking as I havn't seen many around.
Have heard the Zigen ones though and they are well-wicked!!

me think you might have it wrong
I could not see a 4 or 5 inch diameter exhaust on a FTO

I am running 3 inch exhaust and that is with a 500 HP turbo there just aint any need for even a 4 inch exhaust system unless you got a monster turbo on there

are you talking about the tip by any chance

Yeah sorry Danny, talking about the tip only (tired last nite) not sure of the general diameter. The Ralliart ones stock or not? just curious.
