FTO stats & facts

Post by Mr_Magna »

Hey all,
I am new and after much searching I can still not find the answers to some questions so hopefully you can help me out.

Is it true that the MIVEC powered FTO weighs 1190kg in A/T form.

Do any of the FTO's come with the 5speed version of the INVECS II A/T?

Do any FTO's have Traction control?

Does the LSD come in M/T and A/T in the high spec FTO's?

What year model does the LSD first appear?

Is the limit of the A/T about 250kw like the magna?

What is the stock 0-100 time ( had various answers from 7.2 - 8.0 sec)?

Is the manual 0.4sec faster 0-100 than the auto like the magna?

Is insurance hard to come by and or expensive?

Thank you for your time, I ask most of these questions as most my technology in the magna came from the FTO.

sounds about right....
Do any of the FTO's come with the 5speed version of the INVECS II A/T?
yep, after i think 97 with the facelift they came with 5 spd tips...
Do any FTO's have Traction control?
yep
all facelift(ie 97 onwards) and some of the earlier ones as it was an option(for instance my 96 model has abs, tcl and airbag, all of which are non-standard options)
Does the LSD come in M/T and A/T in the high spec FTO's?
LSD is only on GPvR model
What year model does the LSD first appear?
hmmm no idea on this one...
Is the limit of the A/T about 250kw like the magna?
if you can afford to get 250kw from an FTO engine, then you can sure as hell spend the extra to strengthen the box if need be......
What is the stock 0-100 time ( had various answers from 7.2 - 8.0 sec)?
id say around the mid-high 7's as stock, depends on auto/manual and mostly driver and conditions...
Is the manual 0.4sec faster 0-100 than the auto like the magna?
yep, but once again, more comes down to the driver and conditions, and the condition of a car, a well looked after auto would be quicker than a thrashed and worn manual...
Is insurance hard to come by and or expensive?
depends on age, location and history...ie ie 25 with no claims, 100% ncb and gettin stung for a 1500 buck/yr for comprehensive...but it can range anywhere from(remember previous posts) $10000(NRMA etc) down to around the $700 mark for those 'elderly' people with fto's ;)

oh, and try the search button for more definitive answers

Cool thanx dude. Very interesting. Im glad that they have the 5sp and TCL in the A/T. Well I was thinking of turbocharging my magna and they said 250kw at the fly was about the limit of the 5sp A/T. Only needed 9psi from a T28 to get there, but weighing in at 1430kg didnt think it was worth it but lose 240kg with an FTO, the numbers start to look better.

Are there many people on here who have turbocharged the 6G12?

Yeah used the search and the info from the fto.org that has UK & Australian reviews but thought I would ask the owners. Ohh and do any FTO's come with 2 pot brake capilers?

If your thinking of doing a turbo job on an FTO, this will not be so cheap, your looking at 10k ++ if you want a good decent job. There have been a number of people that have done a turbo job to the FTO.

If you are thinking of buying an FTO, check out the Cars for Sale section, there is even a bargain turbo fto going for sale, i hope...

I think all the GPX & GPvR have 2 pot calipers.

Boris.

Thanks dude, am still just sussing out cars atm for my first real project car in a years or so time and so far the FTO is winning. Well it was gunna cost $7500-8000 to turbo the magna or $12000 for the twin turbo kit.

Yeah that car is tempting. :D

I've know the owner for 3yrs, & i can swear to god, if you see it, you buy it, its got one of the best sound system with excellent interior/exterior condition, always garaged & clean. Of course the turbo factor too.

I know lots of members would love to get it as its a super bargin, if only their partner let them to have a 2nd FTO, thats including myself

Well you guys don't get that much traffic jam, if any traffic at all heeheh, so manual would be perfect, but in Melb & Syd, during peak hr, you be so glad you got a Tip.

Before my current job, I use to drive on the road minimum 7hrs a day for the past 4yrs with a manual car, yes its more fun to drive manual but its a pain if you on the road with idiots around you all the time......start stop start stop start stop start stop :?

But each to their different, I’m not saying you wrong, I’m just generalizing base on my experience. :D
