Tein HA Adjustable Coil Over 2nd Hand

Hey I am just about to pick up these Tein Shocks what do you guys think from the pics ? do they look like they are in bad condition, and if so can i service them or repair them at all ? should I not buy them I have no idea when it comes to these things.
I am picking them up for $800 what do you guys think ?
Anything I should look out for ?

to me...i reckon...they're a steal! cos they include the pillowball uppermounts front and rear!

it sure looks disgusting, but which undercarriage item doesnt?

if u could have it test fitted and go for a ride...it'll be good...

not sure if there are any tein refurbishers(shock reoiling) ard in aust, but i'm sure they're not cheap anyway...

standard settings are 8 clicks front and 10 clicks rear...a little on the harsh side, i'm using 6 front n 8 rear with rubber top mounts at e mo....
i might tune it down to 4/6...

yeah they look in alright condition, they are deffinately worth the $800.
worth i try.

im running like 4 /4 hahah because of sydney roads...

but in canberra 6/6 :P

I would go whiteline or failing that (dunno if whiteline still do coilovers for Fto's) I'd stick with stock. Everyone I know with tein suspension has had trouble with them (including myself) Hello another 2.3k+ or fun search for 2nd hand replacements if something goes wrong.

5 friends with Tein, 5 blowouts. Some were brand new and they drove the car about 2 months total before they went b00m. I've had the alum adjust rings snap, one strut bend (for no apparent reason as I dont flog the car) and more. MIne are about 1.5 years

ive had no such troblem with mine. had them for 3 years, not one hickup 8)

are they easy to adjust whilst on the car ? Just thinking of setting a harsh ride for now and adjusting them later

yeah they are easy to adjust..

jack up the car
use the C spanners to adjust the hieght ... metal ruler might be usefull..


adjust the damping setting by turning the knob on top of the absorber/strut

Thanks everyone for their input
I ended up picking them up today for $700 ( i did a little bargining :P )
anywyas i bought them from a jap parts supplier in livipool, and the guy was very nice and helpful, quite suprising actually.
I got there just after they closed (running late) and he still went and got them , knocked $100 of and when i asked about adjusting them with a c spanner, he went looking for a tool to do it with ! He didnt end up finding one, but said if i find out its the same tein one on all models or similar to a different tool, when he gets some in would hold it for me !
Aparently they were taken off an fto to be complianced, and he has had them for a 18months.
anyways i got them home and gave them a clean and they look like their in a lot better condition then i thought (looking at the photo above)
one problem was the rear shocks, the boots have split, is this normal ? can you get any similar (or even stock) suspension boots to replace them, do i really need to replace them anyways ?
The place i got these shocks from dont usually stock fto parts, but i reccomend them to anyone nearby

yeah man, my rubber boots have split too, but i dont think its anything too major???

make sure when your setting the height that u lock the 1st nut and 2nd nut so that it doesnt move easily. you do this buy having two c spanners and tighten them into eachother

actually looking at those threads, they look like they are set pretty low, if im not mistaken.... Reallllly low. so you might want to raise them a little. :roll:

thanks for the tips, It'll prob be a couple weeks till i fit them, whats a good price, you think for fitting, im estimating around $100

yeah... hmmm not 100...

ive heard its around 300 400 i think :roll: im not sure...cos they have to take out the current suspension, put in the new one, adjust, and 4 wheel allignment..

it would take a couple of hours i reckon...

save the $300 or $400 and do it yourself gav... its easy... then just take the car to the shop and get a 4 wheel alignement... which will probly cost about $100 anyway....

just make sure you go to a really good suspension guy.
One that uses proper Laser.
it really pays to have good settings Ie appropriate camber, toe ect ect.

yeah i agree... a good laser alignment makes a lot of difference... but a couple of good potholes can put it outta whack pretty easily :?

but seriously... for your coilovers.... youll probably have to undo 6 or 7 bolts max to swap them over... 3 on top of the strut, 2 that connect the strut to the brake assembly, 1 for the swaybar droplink, then the brake line... then take existing strut out, and replace with tein coilover and put bolts back...

i did them on a mates prelude and the only problem that you might encounter is difficulting removing bolts .... WD40 or silicone grease is your friend :) ... but only do it if you have the right tools....
