Rubber Seal - Cam Carriers

After a few more hours or googling and searching I've had enough so time to ask again.

The little piece of thin rubber that sits in the tiny gap on the cam carriers and the cyl head......is that an actual part? If so what's the part number? Either way I'm going to use gasket maker around and in that gap but I'm assuming that little rubber piece will fill that gap as the gasket maker tends to shrink after it sets.

It's super important I find out what this rubber is so my engine won't get pregnant!!!

Do you mean those half moon seals on the opposite side to the cam gears?

Or a seal between the cam tray and head? If so that is just a form in place gasket (I used Permatex black from memory, whichever is the one for applications around oil)

Between the cam carrier and bottom part of the cyl head. It looks like a strip of rubber about 4mm wide. I'm not sure if that's just gasket maker but I've seen it on every FTO head I've listed so far. It looks like it's designed to sit in that tiny gap that runs all around the cam carrier except for where the double-half moon seals are.

No rubber seal. It's just RTV sealant

There is no gasket there, just sealant as per the 6A1 series Mitsubishi manual:

Fark no wonder the piece of sh*t leaks. I've got my hands on some permatex right stuff. Should do the trick.

Reckon it's worth fabbing up some gasket material for that area and double up with gasket maker?

Never seen it leak before tbh.
Make sure you get the right sealant that withstands oil and temps

Yeah only place it ever leaks is from the double half moon seals.

Never seen it leak anywhere else.

Run a 3mm bead around the whole thing.

Sump is done the same way, no gasket, just sealant.

And no, don't use gasket material. It's designed to be sealed with a sealant, hence why the cam carrier has a indentation around it for the sealant to seep into and act like a gasket.

The motor I'm working on atm had a cam carrier leak coming out of the front on the right bank and on the rear of the left bank which is odd. I'll thicken up the goop when sealing this back up again.

Might have been poorly sealed before.

Also, don't go too thick on the sides as there are oil channels you don't want sealant squeezing out and getting in to.

Sounds like the sealant is not your normal stuff, but maybe permatex works.?

Yeah those oil channels are pretty close to the edge. I run a rag through there to make sure they don't get blocked up.

I had to reseal my cam carrier due to a leak over the alternator. Job sucked - paid Vectose/Rob to do my timing belt and tappets.

Yep I cleaned the crap out of the engine the other day and took note of where all the leaks were coming from. I had a pretty evident leak coming out of the cam carrier in the rear bank corner near the cam seal. Cam seal was also leaking and double-half moon too in the rear bank.......absolutely SHOCKING to see. WTF was mitsi thinking using jizz instead of sealant?

I've ordered a whole bunch of seals to redo everything.
