Gearbox will not show which gear it's in. Stays in one gear.
Ok, so my FTO will stay in one gear when I start it (not sure which one 2nd or 3rd). The indicator doesn't show which gear it's in. I can drive forward and reverse without any issue. It has 4 gears. What is the first place I need to look to fix this connection problem? There are no lights flashing on the dashboard although I do think some electrical failure occurred when I rode over a puddle of water once with my right front side. The front ride side wheel cover is damaged so water can come in contact with some cable there. The garage checked all the cables but couldn't find anything strange. The rest of the electric system works fine. Where should I be looking now. I'd like to get shifting again as soon as possible. I need to know exactly where to look. Also look to my previous post for more information.

Check the error codes. If you do a search for reading error codes youll find a post explaining how.

Thing is, when the engine has warmed up a bit, the gearbox wakes itself to life. Is it possible that the transmission fluid needs to be changed? Last time was changed in 2012.

No no error codes and no flashing N. Like I said, the gearbox works fine after 30 minutes into driving. The transmission oil hasn't been changed in three years. Refresh oil should be enough right? Seems like it's not flowing optimally. Maybe some sludge forms when it cools down??

The error codes were checked by some random garage. They didn't find any errors. Maybe it needs to be done with Mitsubishi equipment or doesn't that matter? And wouldn't an oil change to the transmission simply fix this problem?

Change the oil and see if it fixes the problem. It is certainly possible, especially if they used the wrong oil.

New oil could potentially make it worse though if the box is significantly worn.
