Wanted: KYB Front left shock absorber

Post by flateric »

Hi guys, I'm re-newing the front suspension of my '96 FTO GPX and can't get the Front Left KYB shock absorber anywhere in EU. Does anyone know where i can get it ? in Australia or NZ ?

thanks a lot!

You should have a better time getting them than we do.

The Volvo S40 front shocks are direct replacements for the FTO.

R - 334154
L - 334155

KYB parts.

I found out why the S40 shocks are the same the other day, turns out the S40 chassis was outsourced to Mitsi (first time Volvo have ever outsourced anything like that) and it was based on the Mitsi Charisma. Which is essentially a Euro Magna. Wonder if 3rd gen Magna shocks would fit an FTO..

intradasting.

Is my memory failing though or wasn't there some slight difference between the standard FTO shocks and the S40, despite bolting up? Weren't they shorter or something?

Yes. I have less clearance between my tyre and the bottom of the spring seat on my front shocks than on a standard FTO shock. I have tested it.

They also don't have the studs to attach the abs sensor wiring bracket to.

Thanks a lot guys. Apart from the clearance and missing ABS wiring bracket their exactly the same ? i will fit King lowering springs, do they also fit ? the shocks are not shorter ?

My FTO doesn't have ABS so makes things easier. I don't run wide alloys and tyres.

You'll be fine. It's just the lower spring cup height that's a little lower as mentioned. I've had an FTO with KYBs & King lowered springs & it was fine. The total shock length is the same.
