I grabbed a G1W about a year back, it's a pretty well known 'cheap' dash cam - $50ish from ebay or the like..
To anyone without one, or thinking about grabbing one... This beasty has held up very well for something cheap and expected to break in the first week.
The quality is pretty good for what it is, definitely passable as a dash cam... Plates are readable at a closeish distance.
It claims to be 1080p, and the files are technically 1080p... but the quality doesn't exactly reflect that.
The cabling is long enough to route from behind the mirror, down the A pillar, and tucked in behind the cigarette lighter.
It powers on with the car, auto records and loops over old footage. I've caught some quirky little situations driving around..
Cons I've stumbled across:
- - The 'G Sensor' can't be turned off in my version - so any decent pot holes, and the cam locks the current file (it assumes you've had an accident).
This would be all well and good, but eventually it'll fill the card up, to the point it can't record anymore - I have to format it once every 2 months or so.
- - The battery has died over the course of constantly charging and discharging. It's likely a cheap POS too.
When losing power to the cam (car off), the battery doesn't hold enough charge to finish it's current file on occasion - corrupts the file.
This happens once in a blue moon, but it sucks.

I can't speak for the quality of the one I linked, but the one I grabbed awhile back was definitely worth it.
Highly, highly recommended dash cam.
