I have a Mitsubishi FTO 1995 GPX
So just to confirm from what I've gathered:
IF tappets are noisy all the time then they need to be adjusted.
But
IF tappets are noisy only sometimes (comes and goes) then this is fine? I also own a Mitsubishi GTO that does this, sometimes it's completely gone depending on the oil grade I use; seems to like thinner 5w30 oils than 10w40.
Is this correct?
Thanks all

You can leave the annoying loud tappets as long as you like, as from what I understand, they cause no damage, just are annoying.
Usually thicker oils will quieten it down a bit.

Re: Lifter/Tappet Tick
The GPX also has 12 hydraulic lifters which cannot be adjusted, they need to be replaced. If the noise is coming & going I'd suggest that is your issue, one of them is jamming up when cold & releasing when warm or something similar. GTO also has hydraulic lifters, very similar to what's found in the non mivec FTOs.
Please don't be changing oil grades just to mask a tappet noise, that'll cause even more expensive problems in the long run.
