Engine light on, gearbox light on

Hi all,
I have the engine light and gearbox light (N) flashing at about the same rate. Constant and car won't start, turns over and just doesn't start. Any ideas??
I joined pin 1 to pin 4 to get the diagnosis to light up the lights.

No codes then (i.e no pauses between flashes) when you have pins 1 and 4 connected or what codes are flashing up?

Yes no codes just a flash about the same speed as the N for the gearbox

Starter motor, or flat battery perhaps.

Starter motor has been replaced recently and the battery is charged and on charge...

Disconnect the battery and put it in neutral and try starting.

That is after you reconnect the battery, of course
