Caps program help with part numbers please

Could I ask the help of you guys with the caps program, I am chasing part numbers and possible matches with other vehicles for the driveshafts for a 1996 GPX manual, would also like to know if the manual driveshafts are the same as the tiptronic driveshafts. I know were there are a coulple of tiptronic halfcuts.

For that chassis number, it's

32073AL - MR165065 - SHAFT ASSY, FR AXLE DRIVE, LH

32073AR - MR165064 - SHAFT ASSY, FR AXLE DRIVE, RH

I've fought that damnable program, but can't make it tell me any list of vehicles these parts are shared with. Sorry... no 1337 CAPS skillz here, hehe.

However, there are different parts listed for different FTOs (if I leave out the chassis number, it lists the possibilities). So, using an old list of chassis codes I dug up, I've gone deep deep DEEP into the wonderful world of FTO models and axles. Sad.

To begin with, the 4-letter chassis code starting with 'H' means the following:

H
R/N/Y (R=4sp tiptronic, N=manual, Y=5sp tiptronic)
H/G (H=GR, G=GPX)
E/M/H (E=1.8, M=non-MIVEC 2.0, H=MIVEC 2.0)

There's also an "LSD" entry. Perhaps a GP Version R, or lower spec car with optional LSD? Anyway, here they are...

From then on, there are a mishmash of the above part numbers repeated.

Strangely enough, it looks like there are alternate part numbers listed in there. eg.

Left axle:
MR145813 = MR145819
MR165065 = MR165069
MR276833 = MR276835

Right axle:
MR145814 = MR145820
MR165064 = MR165068
MR276834 = MR276836

Looking at the patterns, I can say that it looks like this:

- For the first few years, the non-MIVEC 4-speed tips always used 'MR14581x' axles. So probably the lowest spec axles going. Otherwise (ie. MIVEC or manual), it used axle 'MR16506x'.

- At various times up to early '97, both 4-speed tips (HR) and manuals (HN) were listed as sharing the same 'MR19643x' axles. In the same period, they also shared 'MR16506x' axles.

- From '97 on, the manuals (HN) were all still using 'MR16506x' axles.

- From '97 on, the 5-speed tips (HY) were using 'MR27683x' axles.

I really hope this helps, because I've got one mutha of a headache now!

I will get on the phone tomorrow and hopefully source some new driveshafts, and try again next week or the week after.

i can see why you got a headache i have had to read it several times, but the more i read the better it sounds, so it seems the early model GPX tips have the drive shafts i want, might be able to get some used ones tomorrow.

No worries.

The other option would be to take a punt that the 'MR19643x' axles are a higher spec one, brought in for limited edition or LSD use. It could be...

Mitsy could well have rationalised things and gone back to the originals after '97 for cost/efficiency reasons.

Also, see if you can buy them in six-packs!!!!!

You could always buy a 6A12 MIVEC powerplant and do an engine swap. I hear they fit perfectly in FTOs.... and rarely snap both driveshafts!!!!!!!

i would be surprised if there was a 6A12 that had snapped there driveshafts

Thanks for the help richard, It is all fixed now and going again, found 6 FTO halfcuts and they had a set of manual GPX drive shafts on the shelf

so will be trying again next week or the week after. Hopefully i will get a couple of passes in before they break again.

I live a relatively short way from the Motorplex, so it'd be a good evening out. Might even bring Katrina along, hehe.

well lets just wait and see i will give you a ring if you would like to come down. But after what happened on wednesday.

I only managed about 20 meters, i would hate to dissapoint anyone who came down.

Chances are they could snap again.

I will be getting some made in the new year that should handle the torque.

then we will find out the next weak link in the drive line.
