So, late this afternoon I was driving around with a friend (not being stupid, not revving the car past 4-4.5k) and towards the end of the night, the car lost power when I went to accelerate after turning onto another street. I even put my foot flat and still the car was slowing down.
It got to the point that when a traffic light turned green and I went to go, I had no power at all, and the only way to get the car to move was to EXTREMELY lightly accelerate and change gear before the car hit 1500rpm.
All the while this was happening, if I took my foot of the accelerator and held in the clutch, it idled perfectly still.
I turned the car off for an hour, had something to eat and talked with my mate some more, and when I turned the car back on it was working fine again for the 2 blocks home.
I can't figure out what is wrong, whether it be an issue with the air fuel ratio, air intake, fuel filter or pump, fuel line or the accelerator, which I noticed when I looked tonight that the wire on it is a bit loose.
Any clues?

Re: Engine losing power
Probably fuel or spark. Start with fuel - fuel blockage or bad fuel. Change fuel filter.

Re: Engine losing power
Was it shuddering at all like it was misfiring or was it still driving smoothly with no power?

Re: Engine losing power
I had the exact same symptoms 2 years ago. I found that spraying the cat with water to cool it down seemed to fix it.
It only happened on hot days in summer and i also had a aluminium radiator installed so i might have been a cooling issue.
Never did pinpoint the cause but it hasn't occured again.
