Skyline r32 - import

Post by EURO »

My mate just had a r32 imported into aus. WHen it first arrived it had been damaged on the boat - the gtr kit was broken and half of the (14 or so) guages had been stolen. Therefore when we first drove the car it was running very badly!

turns out that the car had been fitted with all sorts of crazy gear! suspension was adjustable, their were struts etc running through the car and underneath the carpets (worth thousands of dollars) there was upgraded filters, oil catch can, oil cooling cans, turbo timers, upgraded turbo etc etc.

Insurance ended up paying him out for a brand new body kit and gave him $2500 to spend at autobahn to replace his guages and they instaled a new dash. So he bought a new engine management system and a few other goodies.

ANyway i took it for a drive the other day, its only runningon 7psi and its damn quick - the mechanic at hypertech said that once the engine management is in, the car will run a lot better at about 14psi! they said it was very well looked after, engine in great nic, and the guy must have spent a fortune in japan!

anyway just thoguht id share the storey as this skyline was 89 and costed my mate about $8000 on road. he now has a super super quick car!

my only question, is that his clutch must be a 'sports style' its either on or off and it helps so much with launching the car! what style have you guys got as im close to an upgrade. i want that launch aspect but dont want it to be to heavy for day to day driving (his was almost hard to push in)!

you can get a heavy duty clutch without it been *heavy*.. Some of the daiken clutches are good, i have a daiken (*spelling) on mine and it's also has a lightened flywheel.
Not sure what is recommended for the FTO, the gearbox seems fine!!! :)

I thought only stock cars can be inported now, aren't all those extra goodies meant to be removed before it is imported :?

the ship had insurance etc, i think? anyway he didnt have to deal with any of it, he had proof of what was on the car when it was bought and they were fine. everything was handled quite quickly.

Keep importing

Post by Aspenmai »

Hey guys look at my post on the gibberish corner about the changes to the 15 year import rule

these sorts of dreams are now being terminated - we won't be able to get GTS-T or GTRs that cheap at all any more///

IF you already own one - awesome to ya

... Euro your mate did a good job - that usually does happen - the insurance is a good thing

mate of mine got one in and its pretty much a drift car
same deal - the first ride in it is a shocker - hahha pretty raw
needs the touch ups

but getting one in for $8000 in is whats it about - esp if you get a TDO6 .. drool... haha.. $8000 is worth it...

you can see this price almost doubling (x3) now - and all the mods (if any) being destroyed before the car gets into your hands on aussie shores...

=(

if you disagree with the 15 year import rule - please petition against it.> !!
